Criminal Activity
As the town begins cleanup and recovery after the ultimate night of the festival, the party awakes and begins discussing their next move as well.
Auron has left them a note, stating that he had something to take care of, and will be back in a few days.
During their discussion, their Warden Edwen arrives, clutching the bow that she won in the archery contest. When the party are discussing seeking a job, she lets them know that the Castellan of Bethencourt is interested in hiring a group to seek out and resolve the source of some thefts that have been occurring on the home farms.
The party agree that this is worth looking into as a job, and ask Edwen if she would like to join them in their quest.
Edwen is very excited to see the inside of the castle keep, but Ortair the Castellan is waiting for them at the door, and shows no interest in allowing the riffraff into the keep. He lets the know that among other things, the thieves have been making off with the lord's strawberries, which are being forced under glass for the lord's table, despite it being very early in the spring. This is impacting the lord's life, and therefor they are offering 60 gold if the party can either kill the culprits or return them for justice (if they are persons).
The party then sets off for the home farms around the back of the castle.
They first meet up with Engelies the smae Goliath peasant that had just lead her team to victory in the mock battle, and she lets them know that the thefts have only really been noticeable for the last couple of weeks. Her son Egwine lets them know that he's heard strange noises like a dragging and rustling, when he has been out to use the outhouse at night. He thinks the culprit might be a ghost.
Egwine's friends Ewald and Agenilda are also questioned, with Agenilda revealing that only food has been stolen and only things that could be eaten without cooking first, as well as telling them that yes, she has seen a ghost down near the mill leat in the dusk, and that she thinks it's probably faeries stealing the food. Ewald on the other hand believes that he saw some strange marks along the bank of the leat leading into, or out of, the water, and insisted that HE was not the thief.
They also questioned a man named Horik, who told them that there was no sign of any kind of tool, knife, basket or anything else at any of the scenes, and that he figures it's a group of raccoons or something similar.
Aster then insisted that he wanted to stay the night to watch the farms, and finding slim pickings on an elevated area to watch from, eventually settles on the top of one of the outlying cottages as his best bet. After arguing among the party, the party eventually decides they will stay IN the cottage while Aster stays on the roof being far stealthier. This, needless to say, makes the woman who's cottage they have taken over extremely displeased, and she does NOT take well to demonic influences inhabiting her home, but allows the party to pay her to leave for the night after they give her back her dinner.
