Astendars

The Astendars came across a storm spirit while returning to the wreckage of Brunhild to salvage supplies. They contracted with this spirit to provide ease in travel, in exchange for a permanent shrine on Veltia for the spirit for it to manifest. This deal was made in secret, without the knowledge of the other clans. When this was discovered, they were exiled from Veltia. Though this was only a momentary setback for them due to the storm powers bestowed upon them by the spirit, it did remove them from the listed nobility of Veltia, causing the navy to hunt them for their newly unregistered magic use.

The shrine of the storm spirit on Veltia, promised to it by the Astendars, was desecrated and burned. With nowhere to manifest, the spirit split its power into many shards, granting each to an Astendar. These shards allow those of Astendar blood to access a fraction of the spirit's power.
