Sea Felver
This article covers the Sea Felver tribes that did not become the Mereese people.
Before the continents of Elysia split, Sea Felvers were a group of Felvers native to the marshlands of Northern Sycios. During the Sundering, they did not hide in caves, they hid in the ocean. Thanks to their magical attunement to Elysia, their extended stay under the ocean gave them a milky blue, scaled skin. They evolved webbed hands and feet and their ears became smaller and unable to take in water but able to sense vibrations in the currents. Their eyes developed second lids to shut out the water.
Not all Sea Felvers surfaced on Meros to become the Mereese people after the sundering. Small tribes in the Marshlands near the Fish Cities still operate. They are aggressive to all that don't share their characteristics. All of these tribes went mad during the Sundering and have surrendered themselves to dark monsters that dwell deep below the trenches of the Mero sea. They have taken on a more pronounced, fishlike appearance, with wide, fanged mouths and massive, rounded eyes. These tribes are not nomadic, live in kelp-wood huts and spend most of their time praying and sacrificing to dark gods.
Culture
Major language groups and dialects
Sea Felvers speak the Ancient Tongue of magic, Aquan, a language known by many deep sea monsters and sentient underwater beings and finally they have retained their Felvish tongue, but do not like to use it.
Shared customary codes and values
Sea Felvers share little to nothing with conventional Forest Felvers. They pride themselves in being the closest servants to the gods of the deep. Little revolves around their society but continuous animal, fish or child sacrifices and mating. Should they be called upon by their master, they will eagerly abandon everything to do their bidding.
Art & Architecture
Sea Felvers have been known to make the greatest underwater structures in service to their masters. Many deep sea fortresses are built due to their unwavering servitude and exactness. They quarry stone from under the waves and inlay walls with gemstones and other baubles formed under the trenches. However they waste little time on building for themselves. They craft huts made of ancient kelp that has turned completely solid. They call this kelp-wood. Their campsites are usually filled with these slowly rotting structures, often in disrepair. These abodes function only as a place to store their items and for them to sleep in.
Common Customs, traditions and rituals
Sacrifices are made every day to the chosen dark gods of the Sea Felver tribe. Everything from kelp-wood to newborn children can be sacrificed. Inanimate sacrifices are thrown into the waves every night and taken away. This brings pleasure to the tribe but should the head Shaman of the tribe (whom acts as the medium between the dark gods and the tribe) demand that the gods need better sacrifices, something greater can be given such as gemstones. Sea Felvers regard sacrificing themselves as a necessary but ineffective evil. They would much rather sacrifice someone not of their tribe but on certain occasions they may be required to sacrifice one of their own. The exception to this rule is their young. Sea Felvers will sacrifice them with great reluctance, but the rewards for sacrificing one of their own are incredible. The dark gods will give back to the Sea Felvers. Showers of fish will rain from the skies and many tribesmen will discover large amounts of gemstones and baubles. Best of all, creatures such as mermaids and giant crabs will surface from the waves and protect the tribe. Sacrificing a child is done as a tactical move for desperate tribes.
Ideals
Beauty Ideals
It is common for many Sea Felvers to wear fish bone necklaces. Their ability to craft them and find the best bones is regarded as a point of attraction. Sea Felvers are the greatest humanoid deep sea divers and use this ability to travel far into the sea to mine gemstones and other rich artifacts of the depths.
