Cadren Mannthlec - Night's Shadow

Thief-King Cadren Mannthlec (a.k.a. Night's Shadow)

Cadren the Thief-King is the current leader of the Tri-Syndicate, a gang of rogues that plague the Eastern Empire stealing from nobles and stoking public unrest. It is thought that he orchestrated the theft of more than half of the Empire of the East, Falanthros's personal coffers. He is considered one of the most skilled Nightwakers and shadow mages in the world.   Cadren was born to a family of twelve outside the city of Quo'rihn in a district called the Wovern. (Outlet) His family were thought by Quo'rihn's Military Police to be harboring Shadow mages and slaughtered save for Cadren and two of his sisters; Axia and Ulthien who escaped with the help of their mother.   Unable to survive, Cadren resorted to thievery. He stole from those who were his neigbours and was astoundingly gifted at this for it was at this time that he discovered his power as a Nightwaker. This drew the ire of the Circle of Thieves who were great powers of Quo'rihn's underworld. Instead of killing him, they trained the young elf in the art of stealth and shadow magic. In return for shelter, food and safety, he acted as a thief and bodyguard for the Circle.   Preying upon those who shared his plight under the oppressive gaze of the Grand Magisters soon disgusted him. After a decade of training, he moved to the main city. He became infamous in the city for even the Grand Magister of Quo'rihn was not safe from his reach. It was said that Cadren, out of boredom, one day broke into the Grand Magister's cook rooms to poison every dish with Felfaerfen (a hallucinogenic depressant) and spent the night drinking with the Great Council of Mages who believed he was a deity.   Cadren was so much of a threat to Quo'rihn that the legendary Ranger Skarl was commissioned to hunt him down by Grand Magister Theleron. Skarl finally tracked Cadren and fought him from dusk till dawn until Cadren narrowly escaped, but not before Skarl was able to enchant him, binding him to a pact that prevented him from coming to Quo'rihn at the cost of his mastery over shadow magic. Although some whisper that this 'pact' was rather a verbal agreement by the two made after an arduous and even matched battle, to agree to never bother each other again and split the winnings of the Grand Magister.   After 30 years of silence, a great heist was reported to the Emperor of the East in Aldaros where the imperial treasury was ransacked to half its glory without a culprit to name. Soon after, Cadren and his two sisters emerged in as leaders of the Tri-Syndicate (Hal'Fathom in Elvish) a notorious band of elite and outfitted thieves and mercenaries that began to foster unrest and disloyalty in the Empire's cities of Summerest and Aldaros.
