Velentoth Empire

Velentoth is an old empire, dating back to the Pact. Dytryks have risen and fallen creating their own dynasty's along the way. But one thing holds true to the Velen's Magic is not to be trusted.

Geography

Velentoth is a land that has been shattered, ridges of solid rock run criss crossing over the land. However these are buried beneath the rolling tides of the desert sands. Rocky outcrops and cool oases grant the desert lands some relief allowing civilized life to flourish in these secluded spots. Where solid ground does break through the sands a Mine is usually founded.

Ecosystem

A great deal lives beneath the sands, occasionally a surface creature is found, but beware of eyes in the sky. Weakness here is a dinner bell for the local flora and fauna.

Ecosystem Cycles

During the colder months the sands can freeze over at night, during this time various plants will take root on the surface and bloom. This draws creatures to the surface. It is both the easiest and most dangerous time to cross the desert. During the summer the heat is so unrelenting that many creatures stay below ground and hibernate.

Localized Phenomena

Whirlpools, sandstorms and lightning storms are all common throughout the desert. The experienced know the signs, the inexperienced perish.

Fauna & Flora

Ranging from the small and deadly, to the huge and lethal it is best to avoid tangling with the flora and fauna. Notable examples include a variant of drahgon that lives within the sands, and a cousin of the terrestial nightshade plant that thrives near water and is poisonous to the touch.

Natural Resources

Velentoth Steel is the best in the world. It is much stronger, harder and lighter than other kinds. And when properly used can even provide a small degree of magical resistance.

History

The Velentoth Empire once conquered much of the populated world but have been pushed back to the deserts of their homeland. In recent centuries they have taken to the seas and have made some headway in controlling the waters with a navy. However it has not been possible to land enough troops via the precious ships to gain any significant foothold elsewhere. As such military activities have stalled in the Empire.   It still holds a strong position in the world economy as a trading powerhouse. With unique trade goods and valuables, it is an economic force not to be trifled with.   Culturally the Empire is xenophobic and as such does not participate in the frivolities of the other nations, in part due to the harsh environs that comprise its lands. The Velens do not have the time or energy to spare for fashion or small talk.

Tourism

Almost non-existent. Some tourists may visit the Vzluns, floating cities, on occasion but the other towns and mines are almost never visited for fun, the capital is on occasion host to an event that may draw a few outsiders, but it is so far out of the way that not many bother to make the trip.
