Kaldbakr
The oldest city on Elsynia, Kaldbakr can date itself back to the time before the first age. The city sits along the river Av Kol Sah, some miles before it dives into the sea. Kaldbakr sits in the most mountainous area of Jjyorkvald with the largest peaks this side of Alnn straddling the city. The city sits in a large rift-valley between peaks, the upper city scales these peaks with large and old towers and keeps perched along the steep slopes of the mountains while many businesses and homes sitting along with the flatter parts of the valley with many stradling the gorge. The city’s most prominent feature is a large gash that runs down the center of the valley. Within this gorge is where most of the city lies. The gorge leads to a massive cavern that follows the course of the river that flows through it. The city above being supported on massive shelves that go back into the earth, supported by massive pillars sparsed along the course of the river. Here the ancient city lies with many ancient structures serving as homes, businesses, and keeps. The city continues into the rock with additional structures and a huge number of tombs and other ancient structures. These ancient buildings surround the city in the mountains that it is built-in. The focal point of the city being the Lord-Ruler's Hall or Kaldbakrrenn. This huge obsidian palace sits at the source of the river and straddles it built into the rock face.
The city is predominantly human with a very small Dwarvish and Ohanedin population. The other races usually only find themselves participating in the city’s large research society, delving deep into the ancient structures that permeate the city. Due to its nature within the mountains of northern Jjyorkvald means the city has access to large amounts of ores and other valuable minerals, a majority of the city focuses on the mining industry along with the art of crafting using the materials that are extracted from the earth. This leads to additional ancient structures being discovered by accident when mining.
Recently the tombs that have been explored have been leading to more dangers including traps and other hazards and rumors have been spreading of the denizens of the tombs, undead warriors known as Drauger awakening when their sleep is disturbed. This is a problem as these older tombs, both within the city and in the surrounding countryside are presenting more interesting information from the ancient city.
