Sannoya was descended from parents that lived in Brist and had attempted to escape Hession’s War but were captured by the Phesunlay Navy. After the war, they were released, but now with two small children (including Sannoya), they instead tried to find somewhere to settle down. Not long after travelling south from the capital of Upper Preschwall, they were captured by a Xzonic Competitor and her crew and made into slaves. Sannoya was eventually sold to Tsrachian slaver, who was then sold to Effandi as payment for helping solve an “imbalanced trade”.
Halflings were often particularly skilled at one thing, and Sannoya was blessed with a mind for flavours and cooking with the barest of ingredients. Her relative longevity with the Bones of Effandi was largely due to this skill. Other slaves were sold or traded as they faired, though a select few had been freed in moments of benevolence on the part of Effandi (usually when he was quite drunk, though not always: Lool, a man who was a pack mule for them for a time, won himself free in a game of Alldn).
