The Free Cities of the Varian Alliance
A confederacy of city-states bound by a charter signed some few hundred years ago for mutual benefit and prosperity. Each city-state is free to govern and operate as they see fit and are entirely singular from one another, but the charter demands that each city-state hosts and sponsors a mercenary company that may be employed by any other member of the alliance. This has led to a rich and vivid tapestry of martial practices and craft within the purview of the charter’s lands.
