Lerarasta (LEE-O-ras-ta)
Many can debate, but none can deny, that Lerarasta is the jewel of the Olden Ocean. A milestone stop on the journey between Mulruch, Kadras and Omyth, such a prime locale has led to the city that sprang up there to be one of, if not the, wealthiest city in the world. A diverse mix of cultures swell in the ever expanding metropolis, feeding into the a hotspot for economic trade as well as diplomatic envoy. All are welcome in Leorasta to seek fortune and wealth, so much so that it has also become known as; The Ciy of a Thousand Kings!
Demographics
Leorasta is primarily dominated by a dense polulation of Kithine folk of the Feline Mamalian genus. It is known that Callaban himself was of their people, so borught with him many willing members of his kin when he founded the city. The Kithine make up a large number of the city, and dominate most of the city's politics and high ranking positions of power.
The next largest population are the human settlers that have made their way seeking wealth and prestige as merchant princes within the city. Despite their status as the second largest population group, they do not hold near as many offices within the city as the Kithine, or other racial groups with lower populations. This is due in some part to the human populations tending to be the most expansive group of workers, working hard day and night to earn their fortunes, but once they have, they quietly retire into the city or countryside to rest on their achievements.
The next largest population are the Storm Dwarves. Their maritime prowess is pretty much unmatched, and therefore dominate much of the maritime merchant companies hierarchies. They do hold a good number of positions of power, but also swell in numbers of subordinates to the various merchant princes of the city. If the Kithine are the old money, the Storm Dwarves tow that line of old money to new money.
The next largest groups seems to be a tie between the Dragonfolk and the Hobgoblin peoples of the city. You will find many of them as laborers and small time quartermasters or foreman, but few hold positions of power within the city. Their drive to claim such positions vary from group to group.
A smattering of other racial groups can be found within the city, some even claim that if you cannot find a group in Leorasta, they do not exist on Ellecrid. These other groups are just not nearly as numerous as the aforementioned populations.
Government
Leorasta recognizes the power of each of their many merchant princes, but to recognize them politically would muddy and grind productive movements within the city to an agonizing halt. For this reason, they do not recognize the voice of each individual merchant prince on the governing floor, instead have devised and built up a ruling council, taking the clamoring voices of government from a thousand or so down to just a dozen.
Each member of the council represents a chapter of the Mercantile Ledger, and their constituents elect them as representatives to see their interests are heard and acted upon on the governing floor.
Infrastructure
Leorasta is built out from the island's northern most lagoon, having molded the very stone to fit and accommodate the growing city. Much work was done to incorporate the various channels and islands within the lagoon into the city, leading to the many sprawling districts of the city to be connected by numerous bridges and channels navigated by ferryboats and rafts.
Public works in the form of parks and sanctuaries for nature are numerous around the city, often times serving as locations for meetings and envoys under the sun or stars.
Points of interest
The great Dome Heskar that sits in the exact center of the city is one of , if not, the most iconic landmark of the city. A large structure that dominates the skyline built of sturdy thick stone, with no doors or windows to enter of look inside. It is a breathtaking structure, as large as the palace of Al Ledra, built to be marveled at by the earliest settlers of the city. It is here where all of the channels and canals of the city converge, the water flowing in, through, and out of barred and sunken ducts around the structure. Aside from its majesty and breathtaking profile, it is seen as a place of reverrence, the locls always taking the time to pray if ever they pass by it or gesture a sign of respect whenever they see it.
