Summer Camp Prep 2025

This is my Summer Camp Prep page for 2025's homework assignments. It is a meta article and should be seen as out-of-world content.

Week 1

Assignment 1
Think about ways the theme of Nourishment affects your world. Do people generally have what they need? What happens when they don’t?

Thinking about nourishment, of course I think about food, the logistics of producing them, of transporting them, and of how they're shared with the population. But I also think of the divine, of how the divine feeds the mind, and how those speaking for the divine nourishes those listening with their version of what the divine says, and of how this can corrupt. This is something that I want to explore with this world and the stories set in it, and something that I wish to extrapolate on through the eyes of the people living in this world.

Assigment 2
Download the pledge document and fill it out with your goal for Summer Camp!

I pledge to go for a minimum of Silver, but wish to go for Diamond if I am able.

Assignment 3
If you found any outdated articles in your world, update the most important ones now! Do the same with your worldbuilding meta.

I don't have any outdated articles! Meta is in the works.

Week 2

Assignment 1
Look at the cultures and areas you’ll focus on for Summer Camp, and think about how their past shaped them.

I'll probably focus on the nation the main story will be taking place in, how it formed, why it is the way it is, and what existed in the same place before it came to be.

Assignment 2
Go to your world’s homepage and imagine you’re a new reader discovering the setting for the first time. What should you change to make the experience more engaging?

Some nice images. I always love some good images.

Assignment 3
Find your earliest worldbuilding project. What mistakes did you make that you want to avoid? What good ideas from those early days can you integrate into your current project? Remember to take a moment to be proud of how far you've come!

Starting from the characters and fleshing them out without considering the world that they're in, I think. That even goes for this world, because I came up with the idea for the story and some characters before I came up with this world years ago. That's fun too (I love coming up with characters), but it might be good to know some bits and pieces about where the characters live and the society they have to operate in, which has been part in shaping them.

Week 3

Assignment 1
What transformations and adaptations have the people in your world gone through? What changes are going on right now… and who is trying to stop them?

Society wasn't as religion based as it is now. I want to explore that a bit. And I want to consider how that might change, depending on if the various characters' goals pans out or not, as a way of deciding which outcome to go with.

Assignment 2
Choose a new genre, style, or author, and take a look at their art! Write what you learned from them and what inspired you.

I'm currently reading Innocent Traitor by Alison Weir. I like that the sections are split clearly, and the language. I'll be writing in Swedish rather than English (the story set in this world, and the articles), so I'm only taking a little bit of inspiration from there, though. I recently read the first novel of Ishura by Keiso, and it's very exaggerated. I think it might be something that I might want to lean into, in this, though I'm not certain yet. But with certain characters, I know I want to lean into something of the more absurd and some into the cliché.

Assignment 3
Read a couple of articles from the community, give them a like (and why not a sticker!), and write about what inspired you.

Week 4

Assignment 1
Think about current events that will impact the future. Who is working to create a specific kind of future?

Oh I have a few ideas, they'll be plot relevant, too. There's some religious machinations, for example. That's why I want to put a lot of focus on building the world's religious views and divine stuff.

Assignment 2
Make sure everything’s ready—from your writing space to your writing schedule—before Summer Camp begins!

Yeah, I know where and when I'll be working on this! I have tools available too, though I should pack my barebones map.

Assignment 3
Who or what will help you achieve your goal? What will your sharing strategy be during Summer Camp?

A little bingo card tucked into my calendar, maybe. Something that I can fill in that's more tangible than a website.

Writing about the divine in regards of the first week's theme, is a great example of how "nourishment" can be interpreted in so many different ways! Have fun with Summer Camp and good luck with your pledge :D
