Merchants Collective Association (MCA)

A major power in Stormhaven, the MCA polices the businesses of the city to ensure fair play. Since it is run by many types of people, it is difficult for their power to be abused on a large scale, but when in agreement with each other the MCA could potentially dethrone the royal family using trade embargoes and boycotts. Some say the MCA is corrupt and only helps its own, but no proof has been found of this, and most merchants and businesses in the city already belong to the association anyway.

Structure

The MCA is run by a huge council. In order to be a council member, a person or their family must own a profitable business that makes an arbitrary sum set every year by the council (this is usually to adjust for inflation, though it has been changed for more petty reasons). Non council members join in order to network or gain favor with the association.

Public Agenda

To keep the market a fair place for making money by preventing dirty business practices and corruption from becoming common in the city's market.

Assets

The MCA's only real asset is its members and a single building that acts as a meeting place. It generally runs on membership fees and only uses social pressure to prevent malpractice, not force.

History

After Nordea was killed by the Witch Hunt, Stormhaven's market was in shambles and run by several corrupt men and women. To stop this, the smaller businesses formed the MCA to sabotage their underhanded business deals and prevent them from making a profit in Stormhaven. After their success they began to police the city more generally, where it eventually grew into what it is today.
