Church of Avarden
A church dedicated to worshiping Avarden and, to a lesser extent, Valletta. The two gods of the religion are mainly worshiped together by tieflings, dragonborn, and orcs. There are many churches dedicated to the couple throughout Smiltis and one or two on Arhiem, though their popularity has waned during the general upheaval in terrain in Smiltis.
Structure
A papal seat is held by the highest ranking priest of the church, who is elected every ten years by the other high priests. Under the pope are the high priests, of which there are usually 7-14 of depending on how many talented individuals there are. To qualify to be a high priest one must have been in the church for twenty five years and be able to perform significantly strong miracles (divine magical spells).
Below the high priests are the normal priests, who have trained to be able to preach effectively and perform at least minor miracles.
Those that are under the priests are acolytes, who have either not demonstrated sufficient knowledge of the holy texts or have yet to perform a miracle.

Culture
The priests in the church are a merit based society. Those who have the largest capacity to perform a miracle or pull in a crowd are the ones who rise to the top.
