Mana, Sterea, and Aeriou ((Stair-ee-ah))

Mana, Sterea, and Aeriou are names for different states of a miraculous type of highly reactive material found everywhere in the land of Elgis, originating from somewhere deep beneath the earth. It is this element that allows the denizens to use magic.   Sterea is the solid form, appearing as a rainbow-colored quartz material that will convert back into a gaseous form if not supercooled or put under pressure. Mana is the liquid form, appearing as a thick, deep blue liquid that sparkles when put under light. Aeriou is the gaseous form, appearing as a shimmering, purplish mist that smells like burnt sugar. The high amounts of Aeriou in the atmosphere are what causes the sky-rivers.   For most of human history, this was thought to be the extent of the properties of Mana. Until that is, the early three hundred Metah when it was discovered that six different components constitute Mana. These six components are associated with the six different magic elements.

Properties

Origin & Source

Mana comes up from deep beneath the earth, from some origin point buried far beneath, slowly creeping towards the surface.

History & Usage

Industrial Use

Since Mana or Sterea will transition into Aeriou when left on its own, in order to refine and then use the Sterea it is contained in a sealed wooden box that can be pressurized by turning the crank on the side.

Refinement

Mana can be refined in order to isolate a specific component of the Mana and thus have some magically pure element that can react and form its element without the need to perform magic. The most common form of this is refined Sterea, more frequently shortened to R.S.
