The Triad of Light

The Triad of Light is the ancient religious pantheon which existed in Elenoria for millenia before the rise of Aurelia Orthodoxy and the Unifying Doctrine.

Creation Myth of the Triad of Light

In the beginning, before time itself had a name, the universe was a vast and endless void, a canvas of infinite potential shrouded in darkness. In this primordial nothingness, there existed only the raw essence of creation, an ancient force without form or purpose, waiting for a spark to ignite its latent power.

From this formless void, three divine beings emerged, born of the primal energies that flowed through the universe. These beings were Aurelia, Lumeros, and Umbra—the Triad of Light—each representing a fundamental aspect of existence and together embodying the balance that would shape all that was, is, and ever will be.

The Birth of Aurelia, Lumeros, and Umbra

Aurelia, the first to emerge, blazed forth as a radiant light in the darkness, illuminating the void with her presence. She was the essence of creation’s spark, embodying the forces of light, purity, and life. Her light brought warmth and hope, banishing the shadows and giving form to the void. From her touch, stars ignited, and the cosmos began to take shape. Aurelia’s radiance gave birth to the first dawn, the beginning of time, and the possibility of life.

Lumeros followed Aurelia, a being of profound wisdom and balance. Where Aurelia brought light, Lumeros brought understanding. He was the embodiment of knowledge, reason, and magic, the force that brought order to the burgeoning universe. Lumeros’ hand guided the creation of the laws that governed the cosmos—the cycles of the stars, the ebb and flow of magic, and the balance between all things. He brought clarity to the chaos, establishing the equilibrium necessary for the universe to flourish.

Umbra, the last of the Triad, emerged from the depths of the void, cloaked in shadow and mystery. She was the essence of change, night, and the unknown. Umbra was the counterbalance to Aurelia’s light and Lumeros’ order, embodying the forces of darkness, death, and transformation. Where there was light, she cast shadows; where there was knowledge, she sowed mystery. Umbra was the force that allowed the universe to evolve, bringing the cycles of life and death, the turning of seasons, and the ever-present possibility of the unknown.

The Weaving of the World

Together, the Triad of Light began to weave the fabric of the world. Aurelia poured her light into the cosmos, creating the stars and giving birth to the first worlds. She breathed life into these worlds, filling them with vibrant energy and creating the first living beings, who would bask in her light and thrive under her protection.

Lumeros followed, imparting wisdom and order to these new creations. He taught the first beings the secrets of the universe—how to harness magic, understand the cycles of nature, and live in harmony with the world around them. Lumeros established the balance that allowed life to flourish, ensuring that all things had their place and purpose.

Umbra, in her turn, brought the gift of change and the cycle of life and death. She introduced the night, allowing rest and renewal to follow the day. She brought seasons, enabling the world to grow and transform. Umbra’s influence ensured that nothing remained static, that life was a journey of growth, decay, and rebirth. Her shadows gave depth to the light, her mysteries challenged knowledge, and her presence reminded all beings that death was not an end, but a passage to another state of being.

The First Beings and the Balance of Worship

The first beings created by the Triad—humans, elves, dwarves, and other races—were taught to honor each of the gods in turn, understanding that only through balance could the world continue to thrive. Aurelia was worshipped for the light she brought, the life she created, and the justice she embodied. Lumeros was revered for his wisdom, his knowledge, and the balance he maintained. Umbra was honored for her mysteries, her transformative power, and the inevitability of change she represented.

For eons, the world thrived under the guidance of the Triad. Temples were built in their honor, and each race developed their own ways of worshipping the three gods, understanding that the balance between light, knowledge, and shadow was essential for their survival.

The Ascendance of Aurelia

However, as time passed and the discovery of the Eternal Flame marked a new era, Aurelia began to rise in prominence. The flame was seen as a divine sign that Aurelia’s light was the true guiding force of the universe. Seraphine Dawnbringer taught that the other two gods—Lumeros and Umbra—were simply aspects of Aurelia, that the knowledge and balance of Lumeros and the change and mystery of Umbra were all encompassed within the light of Aurelia.

While Aurelia Orthodoxy spread across Elenoria, becoming the dominant faith, many still remembered the old ways. In hidden groves, forgotten temples, and ancient mountain shrines, the faithful continued to honor Lumeros and Umbra as distinct deities, keeping alive the belief that the universe’s true balance lay in the harmony of all three.

Thus, the Triad of Light remains a powerful force in Elenoria, shaping the world through its influence, whether as three distinct deities or as the unified force of Aurelia, depending on whom you ask.
