Vampirism
Vampirism is both a curse and a disease. With a single bite or a single drink of vampire blood you risk becoming tainted. Few survive the encounter unchanged. Most either perish… or rise again as one of the undead.
Transmission & Vectors
The curse spreads most commonly through a vampire's bite. Their bloodborne virus seeps into the victim’s veins, beginning the slow and painful transformation. Another method, though less frequent, is the deliberate consumption of vampire blood. If the body absorbs a sufficient amount, the change will begin all the same.
Symptoms
The severity of symptoms depends on the amount of blood exchanged and how much of the virus enters the body. On average, within 4Symptoms begin within 48 hours, death usually occurs by the seventh day, the victim begins to experience searing pain as if their blood were boiling. Muscles seize. Organs falter. Death follows slowly and violently.
After death, one of two outcomes occurs:
The body decays normally, the soul untouched.
Or, if the virus fully takes root, undeath begins.
On the seventh day, the corpse stirs. Flesh knits. Eyes open. The creature rises no longer who they were, but a vampire, cursed to hunger forever.

Treatment
Two known cures have recently been discovered, thanks to theological and magical research linking vampirism to Douglas, the Corrupt God of Taint. His twisted divine signature was found woven into the original curse, confirming that the first vampire was likely created by his foul rites.
Fortunately, divine revelation has offered hope but only within the first stage of infection.
Effect: Eases pain rapidly and halts transformation.
Limitation: Requires extremely rare ingredients known only to the Church of Mizu. Stocks are limited and seldom available outside of major temples.
Effect: The body is scourged of all corruption but at great cost.
Limitation: The ritual is agonizing. Bones feel as though they are combusting from within. The vampire taint fights back, and the ritual can last from one hour to an entire night depending on the infection’s progress.
