Propulsion
A Sky Carp achieves its magical ability to lift off, fly, and maneuver through the air by being made out Sage String woven together with a blend of other thick threads. Four embedded aero-quartz crystals at each corner and a single windLay Line Crystals serve as its power core and control node, normally at the head.
To pilot the carpet, the rider channels a small amount of their mana into the wind layline crystal. This links the carpet to the pilot, allowing it to accept commands. You can speak your commands aloud or simply focus your intent your mana interprets both, but clear words tend to work best for beginners.
Once attuned, the layline crystal sends energy through the weave of the carpet, activating the four quartz crystals. These crystals generate wind output beneath the carpet, creating the lift needed for hovering and initial movement. At first, the carpet will rise only a few inches off the ground while it waits for further instructions.
Warning
Sky Carps are flammable, so exercise extreme caution around volcanoes, open flames, and anyone casting fire spells. A single burning corner whether from a spell, flaming arrow, or stray ember can compromise the weave, causing the carpet to fail and sending everyone aboard plummeting from the sky. Riders should also be mindful near the edges. You will feel stronger wind pressure and more vibration there, and losing your balance means the carpet will not automatically swoop in to catch you unless you have a very skilled pilot at the helm. Fly smart, stay centered, and avoid all stuff that are on fire. Just trust us on this one. As the pilot gives commands, the carpet continuously adjusts its balance, shifting the wind beneath it to keep flight smooth and level. Initially, the wind manifests as a gentle spiral beneath the carpet barely noticeable until full lift is achieved. To change direction, the carpet forms secondary wind thrusts on the side corresponding to the pilot’s command. The more familiar a rider becomes with their Sky Carp, the more advanced maneuvers they can perform: loop-de-loops, sharp turns, dives, sudden stops, and graceful arcing motions. Beginners, however, usually stick to simple directions like “left,” “right,” and “forward” and most first-time pilots will definitely feel that little rookie jolt when the carpet responds faster than expected.
