Norden

Norden is the world's northernmost continent, a frozen beauty of infinite snow and quiet. Plant life is sparse, and only the most hardy species inhabit it. Yet, beneath its chilly calm, lies a secret: Norden is rich in Lay line points, making it a country of enormous magical potential.

Despite its beauty, Norden is one of the most difficult regions to navigate. Snowstorms, blizzards, and volatile mana storms are common and devastating. What new adventures for travelers that do visit Norden describe the frightening purity of its landscape vast, undisturbed fields of gleaming white that spread for miles. It's a place of stark wonder, deadly mystery, and breathtaking seclusion.

Geography

Norden's terrain is characterized by snow and ice, with towering cliffs and ridges cutting through it. As one travels farther into the continent, huge mountain ranges emerge in all directions ancient, spectacular, and hazardous. It is called Frago Glacier Mountain Range and hidden in it are glacier springs and pockets of freshwater can be found within these mountains on occasion, a rare but necessary resource in such a hostile climate.

The continent is surrounded by large fields of drifting icebergs, making maritime navigation to Norden particularly perilous. The frozen waters are as dangerous as they are gorgeous, discouraging all but the most prepared or desperate explorers from approaching the freezing shoreline.

Localized Phenomena

The tallest peak in the Frago Glacier Mountain Range hides an incredible mystery. A spectacular waterfall cascades from its crest, seemingly propelled by an invisible force, rather than falling below. This unusual phenomena is created by strong winds blowing through the mountain's interior chambers, raising and twisting the cascade into an upward arc of mist and motion.

The brave soul can stroll through the mountain's hollow interior, where the wind carves a meandering route and the river rushes against gravity. The stone inside gleams in tones of blue and green, giving the tunnels a peaceful, intriguing beauty. Much of this is due to a large wind Lay Line that runs directly beneath the mountain, infusing the entire area with raw elemental force.

This peak is also supposed to be one of Soring Modsiw sacred testing places, as part of Kaze's Trials of Wind. Every thousand years, there are reports of individuals finding their way to this snowy environment in the freezing temperature and heading directly to this mountain.

Climate

Norden is perpetually below freezing—the warmest temperatures ever recorded barely reach 32°F (0°C). The weather shifts between gentle snowfall and blizzards so fierce that visibility drops to less than two feet. Hailstorms are just as deadly, with chunks of ice ranging in size from arrowheads to mace heads, falling with lethal force Similar to the weapons that describe them.

Yet these are the milder hazards.

Norden is laced with an unusually high number of Lay Line points, making it one of the most magically volatile regions in the world. Mana Storm and Lay Line Charge Explosion are common here. These phenomena can cause arcane overload, disrupt magical systems, or will do a number on any person or technology internal and external systems.

Though the land holds a wealth of untapped resources rare minerals, and powerful leyline fonts most who seek them are claimed by the storms long before they can harvest their prize.

Fauna & Flora

The all over Frago Glacier Mountain Range is home to one of Norden's most terrifying animals, the Frost Dragons. Several of these ancient, territorial creatures claim parts of the range as their own. Because of the region's high mana density, they require little physical feeding, taking their sustenance straight from the arcane energies that pervade the area.

Frost Dragons are very territorial. They will attack anyone or everything that enters their domain if they believe it is a threat or encroachment. With innumerable caverns and hidden hollows across the icy peaks, the terrain is suitable for dragons that have evolved to live and thrive in severe cold temperatures.
