Every single being possesses an ability for magic. In this section, we'll look at the most frequent bio systems—the natural ways magic emerges in living things—as well as the categorization systems that help us understand diverse magical activities. We'll also quickly discuss the many aspects of magic.

Magic is a wonder—vast, mysterious, and infinitely adaptable. It has numerous uses in all aspects of life. That is why we attempt to comprehend all types, no matter how weird or otherworldly they might seem.

Bio System of Magic in Elema

Every living being in Elema possesses two interconnected systems that govern magical potential: the chakra network and the neural network. These systems operate both independently and in tandem, shaping how individuals generate, control, and express magic.

At birth, each person has a base value for these systems, much like physical strength or intelligence. Some may begin life with a negligible magical presence, while others are brimming with power. One individual may have a stronger neural network, another a more dominant chakra system—and some may start out balanced. But remember: this is only a starting point. Both systems can be trained, refined, and strengthened over time.

Chakra Network

The chakra network is your body’s natural mana and aura generator. It radiates energy outward, forming an aura that surrounds the body—leading many to believe it’s tied directly to the soul.

For most people, mana flows primarily from the chakra network, as it's closely linked to physical movement, instinct, and emotion. This system responds to what you do with your body and how you feel while doing it. Physical activity, emotional expression, and intentional focus can all strengthen the chakra network. Because of this, fighters, rogues, artisans, travelers, and laborers often find their magic forming naturally through their lifestyle.

That’s why many martial combatants can imbue their weapons with elemental energy—they’re unconsciously channeling their chakra. Some people take this even further, combining physical mastery with inner reflection. These are the monks, ninjas, and other discipline-based practitioners who tap into unique traditions. Through balance of body and spirit, they unlock rare magical techniques.

Those born with an exceptionally strong chakra network are often called sorcerers. These gifted individuals wield magic as effortlessly as breathing, shaping mana instinctively without study or incantation.

Neural Network

The neural network represents your mental and will-based energy. It’s the forge of imagination, intention, and raw potential. Though less common, some people are born with a dominant neural network—an incredible mental force that, when trained, can even override the chakra system’s natural flow.

The neural network governs logic, understanding, and structured magic. While the chakra network channels action and emotion, the neural network channels thought, symbolism, and mastery of magical law. It requires study, discipline, and a deep understanding of how magic and the world operate.

Those who strengthen this system become wizards, witches, and scholars of the arcane arts. They forge their will into spellwork, reshaping the world through sheer understanding. Not all neural masters are mages, however—many great leaders, tacticians, and inventors owe their success to an iron will forged in the neural system.

Bards, for instance, are artists who’ve honed the neural network through music and storytelling, manipulating magic through rhythm, language, and emotional resonance.

There are also individuals whose neural network manifests as raw psionic power. These psychics bend reality with thought alone. Their abilities depend on how their mind is wired—some predict futures, others read minds, or even twist perception. As they grow, their true potential emerges from understanding the architecture of their own mind.

Elemental Influence

Both the chakra and neural networks are influenced by your natural elemental affinity. For example, if you are innately gifted with the Water element, both your physical and mental energy systems will carry that elemental tone.

So, even though chakra is tied to spirit and neural to will, both systems will express water-based traits. This makes it easier for you to learn and use water magic. While you can branch into other elements over time, your natural element will shape your magical instincts and strengths.

Note: Elemental affinity does not typically affect your resistances or vulnerabilities—those are usually determined genetically and only vary in special cases or rare bloodlines.

Classifications of Magic

Elema's magic is roughly classified into two types: arcane and divine. ________________________________________

Arcane magic.

Arcane magic comes from within—it is the magic you create with your own body, soul, and connection to Elema itself. It represents your internal energy and manifests in accordance with your natural aura. Arcane magic is highly personal, influenced by will, emotion, and the elemental alignment of your mana. Arcane magic practitioners use internal resources to cast spells, improve their abilities, and affect their surroundings. This includes those who use their chakras or neural networks to direct magical energy. Your arcane strength increases as your body, mind, and soul develop.

Common arcane classes include:
  • Wizards (trained minds shaping magic through study)
  • Sorcerers (innately gifted with magic from birth)
  • Rangers (blending magic with martial instinct)
  • Monks and Ninjas (honing internal energy into mystic arts)
  • And the vast majority of magically attuned individuals across Elema
Arcane users are widespread, as their magic stems from personal growth, discipline, or natural affinity. ________________________________________

Divine Magic

In contrast, divine magic is given on a person by a higher being or force. These could be gods, goddesses, ghosts, ancient beings, or things from the metaverse. This type of magic acts at a different wavelength than arcane magic. When someone obtains divine magic, their aura frequently transforms to mirror the nature of the entity they've associated with, changing their elemental affinity, magical style, or even personality. In some situations, divine magic might completely replace the caster's inherent magical talents.

Common divine casters include:
  • Paladins (sworn champions of divine justice)
  • Clerics (chosen guide and emissaries of deities)
  • Witches (who form pacts with Etherlings A creature from the metaverse)
  • Druids (though they tap into primal forces blessed by their Divine Sprit Guardian of their circle, they often straddle the line between divine and natural)
Divine users are rarer than arcane practitioners, and their magic does not always follow the standard norms of nature or spellcasting. (Druids are an exception, as their power remains inextricably linked to Elema's natural rules. Classifications of Magic

Mana Wavelengths and Auras

Mana operates on its own unique wavelengths, which can be seen by trained casters. These wavelengths emit colors and hues that often indicate the elemental nature of the magic. However, it’s important not to confuse this with aura color.

When you cast a spell, your aura becomes the visible layer—the outer shell that wraps around the elemental and magical energy within. If someone uses Detect Magic or a similar ability, they’re not seeing the traditional spectrum of light—they’re seeing the magical array: a fusion of mana wavelength, elemental essence, and aura overlay.

Your aura essentially becomes the visual representation of the spell, acting as a filter or lens for the raw energy beneath it.

Additionally, the speed and frequency of the mana wavelength often determines which magical discipline the energy is beginning to align with—faster, sharper waves might align with Destruction, while slower, fluid ones could align with Illusion or Divinity.

Manifestation

Magic exists within all living creatures, no matter how big or small. A creature may possess only a faint spark of magical energy, or they might harbor a vast, overflowing reservoir. Regardless of the amount, every living being has functional energy systems within their body.

For the majority of species—around 85% of all life on Elema—these systems take the form of the chakra network and the neural network. While some rare or unique species may have different internal mechanisms that serve similar purposes, the dual-system structure remains the standard across most of the world.
