Hemoglint Briar

The Hemoglint Briar is a notorious and sought-after plant, renowned for its intense stickiness and deadly blossoms. Though deadly, it is prized for its powerful medical and alchemical capabilities, which are frequently utilized in the formulation of wall-crawling potions, blood-related tonics, and even weaponized poisons.

Basic Information

Anatomy

This carnivorous plant grows low to the ground, with a centralized core and numerous vines that spread outward in a tangled web. Its leaves and tendrils secrete a thick, adhesive fluid that traps small creatures. The flowers grow on long, flexible stems capable of movement, snapping shut on unsuspecting prey. Each flower is a deep emerald green with striking yellow striping splits into four petal and stinger in the middle. The vines are a darker green and constantly slick with resinous mucus.

Ecology and Habitats

Hemoglint Briars are commonly found in deep, shady woodlands, overgrown ruins, and regions marked by previous violence. Unlike most plants, they do not require sunlight to survive; instead, they get most of their nutrition from the blood of caught animals. While they flourish in deep forests and low-light conditions, they are quite adaptable. Hemoglint Briars can thrive in practically any environment as long as their seeds germinate and there is a consistent supply of animal life nearby.

Additional Information

Domestication

Some farmers have discovered a practical—if risky—use for Hemoglint Briars by planting them along the perimeters of their farms. Briars serve as a natural deterrent, catching or scaring away tiny creatures and pests that would otherwise steal crops. This method necessitates cautious handling and frequent monitoring to keep the plants from spreading or attacking unintended targets.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Wall-Crawling Serum – A potion made from the briar’s adhesive resin, granting the user temporary wall-sticking ability. Often used by scouts or spies; effects last around 10 minutes.

Rapid Blood Vials – Emergency-use tonics that simulate a quick blood transfusion. Effective for stabilizing blood loss, but only temporarily. Must be tuned to the recipient’s species for maximum effect.

Blood Poison – A toxic extract that corrupts the bloodstream. Can be slipped into food or blood stores, particularly deadly to vampires or creatures that feed on blood.

Universal Adhesive – The briar’s sap can be processed into a variety of glues and binding agents, useful in both crafting and combat.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The vines and flower stems of the Hemoglint Briar are covered in fine, hair-like sensory filaments capable of detecting subtle movements and body heat. These sensitive hairs allow the plant to sense when a creature has entered its range—marking it as potential prey.
