Cheetah

Cheetahs are among the fastest mammals, great cats, and overall animals in Elema. Built for blistering sprints, they can close the distance to their prey in mere seconds before unleashing their electrified claws in a stunning strike. If you ever find yourself with a cheetah on your heels, you’d better have one remarkable trick to outpace it otherwise, you won’t escape its grasp.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Cheetah a large feline with sleek yellow fur covered in black spots. Its body is uniquely built for speed—its torso is deep and muscular while the hips are slender, allowing for powerful strides when running. It has a long tail for balance, small rounded ears, sharp teeth, and retractable claws. Its eyes are keen and intense, with vertical slit pupils that give it a predatory gaze.

Biological Traits

  1. Unmatched Natural Speed
  2. They are among the fastest animals in Elema that do not rely on magic to enhance their speed or lung capacity. Their deep, powerful chest gives them a large lung capacity, allowing them to sustain high-speed chases for a respectable duration. Built for bursts of speed, they can reach up to 75 mph. However, they are true sprinters, able to maintain their peak speed for only about a minute before they must slow down.

  3. Electric Claw
  4. Cheetahs possess a natural magical ability to channel mana into their claws, creating a surge of yellow electricity. When they slash at prey, this energy delivers a sharp shock that can stun or even briefly paralyze the target, making the final takedown far easier.

Ecology and Habitats

Cheetahs are most commonly found in grasslands, savannahs, and temperate to hot deserts. They thrive in open areas where their speed can be used to full advantage. That said, they are not strangers to climbing cheetahs have been known to scale trees and lounge among the branches. However, they generally prefer habitats with sparse tree cover and wide, open spaces that allow them to roam and move freely.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Cheetahs are swift carnivores, preying on birds, small to medium-sized mammals, and on occasion, lesser magical beasts. They rely on stealth and patience, stalking their quarry through tall grass or open plains. When the moment comes, they unleash a blinding burst of speed, reaching up to 75 mph.

In the wilds of Elema, cheetahs often hunt cooperatively. One will give direct chase, driving the prey forward, while others arc wide to cut off escape routes. When they close the gap, they extend their electric claws, a natural magical that delivers a paralyzing shock. This sudden burst of energy momentarily incapacitates their target, granting them an effortless takedown.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Cheetahs possess exceptional eyesight, with a wide field of vision that allows them to detect even the slightest movements. This sharp visual awareness helps them process information quickly while running at top speed. Their large, rounded ears are equally impressive, able to track and pinpoint the faintest sounds whether it’s the rustle of prey or the approach of danger.

Their sense of smell is also highly developed, capable of detecting prey, recognizing scent markings that define territory, and picking up subtle changes carried on the wind. In the wild, this can signal the presence of other predators, shifts in the weather, or the arrival of a rival.

These three heightened senses sight, hearing, and smell give cheetahs a constant, detailed awareness of their surroundings, allowing them to hunt, evade danger, socialize, and play with precision. By comparison, their senses of touch and taste are average for large cats, but the combination of their primary senses makes them one of the most efficient hunters in the savannah.
