The Underworld
"Why exactly would you even want to know about the Underworld?" the old Curator asked, brow furrowed, a glint of dread in his faded grey eyes. The Underworld. A name that often sends a shiver down the spines of most who think or hear of it. A hellish place, one tucked away and not often 'gazed upon' by the Creator, Avva'ai. Considered hellish due to the utter lack of hope that have rendered all 'residents' beyond depressed and nigh on dormant due to there being no reason to do... anything.
The adventurer gave him a small, grim smile that didn't reach his eyes. "I saw something. A Mural... cave paintings... something. I need to know more about what happened back then."
A Forbidden. Unreachable Place
The Underworld is a distant, isolated place. As often as the Underworld is mentioned in the Ivenne of the capital's sermons, it is not somewhere an unfaithful or evil one's soul will go when they die—at least not yet. There is no way to access this nightmarish place. No one living can enter it, and no one dead can leave it. According to the Mentari who are willing to speak of it and are able to remember, it is nothing more than a prison. A prison for those who willingly let themselves be deceived and turned their backs on the Creator back when this world was in its infancy. An Unimaginable Fate
Only one of the Mentari Kings is said to have been able to witness The Shattering of the World completely from start to finish. This was Tol-Gémentari, the king of the Stone Mentari, and the only one with a mind strong enough to look into the Underworld and the fate that awaited those who spat in the face of the Creator. But even then, he can barely bring himself to recount what he had seen, the despair he had felt upon gazing into that desaturated abyss being something that haunts him even to this day. All some have managed to pull from that stoic, stony monarch are three quietly spoken words: "...Absence... ...Forsaken... ...Darkness..." Other than that, what the Underworld truly looked like is left up to everyone's imaginations.
How some imagine the Underworld is like.
Never Purgatory
The Underworld was created on the advent of The Shattering, a pocket dimension sealed completely off from the rest of Eldûra and only accessable by the Creator. It was created to serve as a prison and the ultimate warning to humanity: this is what will happen to you if you defy the Creator knowingly and belligerently. The Deciever, and all of those who refused to repent after they were defeated by The People of Avva'ai, were banished to the shadow realm of the Underworld, which was then sealed up forever."There's nothing to read, no records at all," the old Curator informed him with a frown, waving a hand vaguely. "I wish I could help you, adventurer, but there is no way to know who carved those pictures into the stone."
