Lament for the Fallen Lost

Let me sing you this to the plucking of my lyre,
This little sad song of a time most dire...
Of a time so long ago that it is forgotten by most—
Come sit, everyone, and listen by my fire...   War, endless war, the world heard their cries!
As those faithful dear warriors were defeated before our eyes.
The sky wept, raining tears from up above,
And the wind was filled with mournful sighs.   There was no hope, our foes never ending,
Yet the soldiers fought on, their knees never bending.
For behind them, back home, their loved ones were waiting,
And thus they were determined to be evil's ending!   So many fallen, so many lost!
The world cried out at the utter cost.
Of human souls, the earth stained red!
The rivers ran iron, a line utterly crossed...   Let us remember all who have fallen for life—
The innocent, the soldiers, victims of strife.
May their sacrifices never be in vain,
And let their memories be our sharpened knife.   Wiped from this world by a devastating choice,
Let this song be their resounding voice.
Their names may be gone, but we will remember—
And because of that, may they rest in peace...
An original song written by a female bard that dates to a year or so after the impact of Rekathusilo, give or take a few months. Not much about her survives to the present day other than her first name, Thílma, the fact that she was a travelling bard, was a war-bard for a knight-banneret during the last years of the Epoch of War, and that she survived the impact... somehow.   Bards all throughout history have learned of her and have kept her name and her most popular song alive through sheer force of will. Every bard who attends a bardic college end up learning how to play this song.   "Lament for the Fallen Lost" is a song that is often played on Remembrance Day, a day dedicated to remembering all who fell in unneccesary wars and in battles against the Undoer's forces.
