Comet Aurorae
"Some of my favourite paintings are of the infamous comet aurorae - the dancing lights, the rare colours..."
Every 20 years a wonderous spectacle graces the sky for three months. Ribbons of light dance across the sky all over the world of Eldura, even in places where aurorae do not reach. It is a sudden and stunning sight that claims everyone's attention—a call to celebration and remembrance.
This is the Comet Aurorae—aurorae similar to the classic aurorae like the Aurora Borealis or Aurora Australis (or the Cíhena Paelí (northern lights) and Cíhena Dúlí (southern lights) as they are known in Aegéfaer) but also... more. The Comet Cíhena are a stirring up of the upper atmosphere, a world-encompassing lightshow that can be seen from all points of the settled world. The cause of this phenomina is a celestial body: a comet with a large and flashy tail. It has been named Liraesvélaun (the "dashing dancer") by the Mainirri, Bédhaen (the "dancing visitor") by the Ancient Eldonine, Ésrahíd (the "starry friend") by the Ancient Behti, and Liraesvé in modern times. It is a welcome sight and it has never been viewed as an ill omen except by the enemies of the Creator.
Liraesvé has a highly-irregular orbit that carries it out of the Eldûra's immediate area and deep into the solar system. To the average denizen, the comet comes and goes. The elves with their observatories don't much more than that, either. Only ███████ really understands where the comet goes and from where it comes thanks to the massive telescope of ███████, and this information is kept to himself.
But no matter what people believe or know, the appearence is a welcome sight and it is quite distressing if someone happens to be ill when it appears in the sky. It is an understandable reaction, since if you miss this chance to celebrate, they would have to wait two decades
