Nexarion Thal'Vekari

Nexarion was once a brilliant mage and a devout follower of the Umbraeum Order of Arcanex faith in the Ethyri Empire. As his power and wisdom grew, so did his fear of mortality and his desire to continue his rule and guidance indefinitely. Seeking the secrets of eternal life, Nexarion turned to the darkest depths of arcane study, eventually undergoing a transformation into a lich—an immortal being bound to the physical world through powerful necromancy.

Characteristics

  • Appearance: Nexarion retains the semblance of his once-human form, though his visage is skeletal and partly hidden beneath elaborate regalia and a mask that symbolizes his eternal watch over Thearos. His eyes glow with a faint, arcane light, hinting at the powerful magic coursing through him.
  • Powers: As a lich, Nexarion possesses immense magical abilities, particularly in necromancy and spells related to the manipulation of life and death. He also has a deep connection to The Aether, allowing him to harness magical energies that few others can even comprehend.

Role as Leader

  • Spiritual Guidance: Nexarion is seen as a direct link between The Aether and the faithful, his eternal life considered a divine boon that allows him to oversee the long-term execution of the Umbraeum Order goals. He leads major rituals, makes pronouncements on doctrine.
  • Imperial Rule: As Emperor, Nexarion maintains a tight grip on Thearos, ensuring stability and order through his overarching knowledge and magical prowess. His rule is often authoritarian, justified by his unending vigilance against chaos and disorder.
  • Philosophy: Nexarion believes in the ultimate supremacy of those who can master The Aether, viewing his immortality as proof of his divine right to rule. He promotes the idea that mastery over magic and life itself is the pinnacle of mortal—or immortal—achievement.

Challenges and Conflicts

  • Moral Dilemmas: Nexarion’s transformation and methods, though effective, often raise ethical questions among the faithful and the populace. His eternal life challenges the natural order, and his use of dark magic can be controversial.
  • Political Intrigue: As an immortal emperor, Nexarion faces unique challenges, including plots by those who seek to test his immortality or usurp his power, both from within Thearos and from external enemies.

Personality

Nexarion Thal'Vekari is a mystically attuned and diplomatically astute individual, adept at navigating the complex interrelations of several influential organizations within Eldaivyr. Wise yet inscrutable, Nexarion is a ruler who commands both fear and respect. His rule is characterized by a pragmatic approach to power, where the ends often justify the means. Despite his transformation, he retains a strong dedication to the Umbraeum Order faith and its tenets, though interpreted through his unique perspective on life and immortality. He is secretive, often keeping his true motives and feelings closely guarded, and he excels in manipulating situations and people to maintain a balance of power and secure his goals.
