Humble Beginnings
Lysikles was born in 575 2A in Pasos, a large human settlement nestled on the fringes of the Jadeheart Empire. Conscripted labor for the dwarvish mines was a constant threat, and resources were scarce. Even as a young boy, Lysikles witnessed firsthand the human cost of the Jadeheart Empire - families torn apart, elders weakened from hard labor, and a general sense of dispair hanging over the town.
From a young age, Lysikles thirsted for knowledge, devouring old tomes of elvish resilience, past human kingdoms, and even dwarvish epics of a time before the harshness of the Empire. This exposure to different cultures and times made him an optimist - a dreamer of a just future.
Seeds of Rebellion
At the age of twenty, after learning what he could from books and word of mouth, Lysikles became a traveling bard. His friend and later ally, Alea Taenarian, forged documents for him so that he could travel mostly freely among the holdings of the Empire. Along his travels, he met with fire genasi, ostracized by the Empire for their fiery nature, and with goliaths, forced from their traditional hunting grounds on the tops of the two mountain ranges on Omas.
Lysikles met many others who shared his frustrations toward the Empire. He honed his skills and became a charismatic storyteller, subtly planting seeds of rebellion in taverns and small villages across the Empire; he spoke of a better future, of unity between races, and throwing off the shackles of the oppression.
One fateful night, in a bustling inn frequented by humans, elves, and a few fire genasi merchants, Lysikles delivered a particularly impassioned speech. He spoke of a world where all races could thrive, not just under a dwarvish boot. His words resonated deeply with the downtrodden crowd. Thus marked the beginning of a movement – the Revolution of the Oppressed.
Rise of a Rebellion
News of Lysikles' message spread like wildfire. He began holding clandestine meetings in abandoned mineshafts and hidden groves. Elves disguised as merchants brought news of their distrust of the Empire (they had been encroaching on sacred groves given to the elves in the Emerald Accords). Goliaths sent emissaries to discuss their desire for freedom.
Lysikles' charismatic leadership and unwavering belief in a better future drew more and more followers. He wasn't a skilled warrior, but he possessed a strategic mind and the ability to unite disparate races under a common banner.
As the movement gained momentum, Lysikles transitioned from quiet meetings to public rallies. He spoke openly in town squares, defying the empire's oppressive laws. His speeches, filled with fiery rhetoric and historical references to the peace of the past, resonated with the oppressed masses. The revolution became a force to be reckoned with.
Death and Legacy
Lysikles died at the Battle of Broken Wings, high in the peaks of the Voiceless Mountains in 610 2A, at the age of 35. However, his leadership and unwavering spirit ignited a revolution that would eventually topple the Jadeheart Empire. Even though he died before seeing the fruits of his labor, his name became synonymous with the fight for freedom, inspiring generations to come.
Strategic Mind, Heroic Heart
Though Lysikles wasn't known then as a great warrior, he had a mind for tactics. Along with his childhood friend and second in command, Alea Taenarian, he planned most battles of the revolution, and fought in most of the well-known ones, listed below.
The Stand at Pasos (600 2A)
The Burning of the Hills (605 2A)
The Liberation of Silversong (606 2A)
The Crossing of Broken Spine Ridge (610 2A)
The Battle of Broken Wings (615 2A)
