Khalar

Nestled among the sloping foothills that rise toward Boldar, Khalar is the pulsing artery through which much of the Jadeheart Kingdom’s trade flows. It is a city of grit, built to endure and to enable. Every day, caravans arrive from the southwest, restock, and head toward the capital. Khalar is a city of those on the move, where no wagon stays long and every inn has three fresh sets of sheets ready before dawn.
Despite its practical bent, the dwarves of Khalar are known for their hospitality, their sharp tongues, and their even sharper business sense. The city is a crucial logistical node, and all of Boldar’s supply chains rely on its stability.

Government

Khalar is overseen by the High Quartermaster, a hereditary official. While not a noble, the Quartermaster has enormous power in the city and commands the Logistar's Council, a committee of merchants, guild officials, and transport coordinators who manage route schedules and trade priorities.
City law is enforced by the local militia, funded by tolls and caravan fees. They are competent, well-equipped, and focused primarily on preventing theft, fraud, and smuggling.

Industry & Trade

Khalar sprawls across a broad valley crisscrossed with caravan roads, warehouses, and waystations. Its buildings are low and wide, built of red sandstone and slate tiles, designed to resist both the highland winds and the dust kicked up by wagons.
The Broadstep Market sits at the city’s heart, a massive open plaza surrounded by merchant halls, inns, and counting houses. The Runforge Way, a wide, paved thoroughfare, connects Khalar directly to Boldar and remains one of the best-maintained roads in the kingdom. Terraced Rows on the valley slopes house the city’s residents, with high balconies overlooking the trade routes below.
