Arcanum
Purpose / Function
The Arcanum serves as Wescovia’s bastion of arcane knowledge and magical education. Founded by exiled mages fleeing persecution from the Tanarian Empire, its original purpose was to safeguard the remnants of arcane tradition and preserve magical theory in an age where magic users were being purged. Today, it is a place of learning, research, and subtle resistance against the decline of arcane potency.
Students study a wide range of magical disciplines, with particular emphasis on elemental control (due to Wescovia’s climate), leyline theory, artifact preservation, and magical history.
Architecture
Perched atop a jagged glacial plateau, the Arcanum is a breathtaking fusion of ancient elven artistry and practical orcish fortification. Its central tower, The Frostspire, stretches high into the pale sky, carved from living ice and veined with glowing silver filigree that channels leyline energy.
The structures are built from aetherstone, glimmerglass, and enchanted Wescovian timber, blending resilience with subtle enchantments that shimmer in moonlight.

History
The Arcanum was founded in 1233, ten years after the Arcane Expulsion in Tanaria, when foreign mages were outlawed and purged by elvish imperial decree. A group of refugee mages—led by the moon elf diviner Caldra Vaelith—sought sanctuary in the northern reaches of Wescovia. Recognizing the political advantage and magical prestige, King Tormund Sigurdson granted them land upon the Glimmerstone Leyline.
Over the centuries, the Arcanum has stood as a beacon of magical resilience in a world that has slowly turned away from arcane study. Though it no longer boasts the grandeur of pre-expulsion academies, it remains respected, mysterious, and often envied.
Occasionally, adventurers, scholars, or desperate kings seek its counsel—but the Arcanum gives knowledge only on its own terms.
