The Ancient Parasite

Not all creatures of nature are whimsical or awe-inspiring. A majority of creatures within nature are simply doing everything they can to survive, from the grandest of towering beasts to the lowliest of fleas. A patron of The Ancient Parasite category is one who preys upon others to survive, drawing their vital life energy into itself. It may draw upon the forces of nature itself to survive. Perhaps it means no harm to the world itself, simply doing what it must to continue its own existence, or perhaps it holds some form of grudge and draws upon these energies in an attempt to weak the world, bringing its inhabitants to their knees before it ever truly strikes.   These patrons are mischievous, secretive, and vile. They steal the power of others to gain more themselves regardless of who or what they may harm or imbalance in the process. In an act of true irony, you draw upon the powers of this ancient parasite—but if you aren’t careful, it may draw upon you as well.

Parasite’s Blast

1st-Level Warlock (The Ancient Parasite) Feature   When you cast your eldritch blast spell, you can choose to change the damage type to poison. When you score a critical hit against a creature with your eldritch blast and deal poison damage, that creature is poisoned until the end of your next turn.

Bonus Cantrips

1st-Level Warlock (The Ancient Parasite) Feature   You learn the thorn whip and infestation cantrips. They count as warlock cantrips for you, but don’t count against your number of cantrips known.

Parasitic Touch

1st-Level Warlock (The Ancient Paraiste) Feature   You have a pool of d6s that you can spend to steal life from other creatures. The number of dice in this pool equals 1 + your warlock level.   As a bonus action, when you deal damage to a creature, you can roll dice from your pool and deal additional poison damage equal to the result. You regain a number of hit points equal to half the amount of poison damage dealt. The maximum number of die you can spend at once with this feature is equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of one die). Your pool regains all expended dice when you finish a long rest.

Pact Focus: Eldritch Husk

3rd-Level Warlock (The Ancient Parasite) Feature   Dedicated to the Ancient Parasite, you can select this option instead of one of the pact foci available to all warlocks when you gain the option to choose one at 3rd level.   This living, parasitic carapace clings to your form, protecting you and siphoning vitality from others. At the beginning of each of your turns, you gain temporary hit points equal to your Warlock Power Reservoir while your husk is attached to you, and whenever you deal damage to a creature using a Warlock spell of 1st-level or higher, you regain hit points equal to your Charisma modifier. If the spell deals poison damage, you instead regain hit points equal to half the damage dealt (Minimum of your Charisma modifier).   You can dismiss the husk, shunting it into an extradimensional space. While it is dismissed, you can use a bonus action to summon it, where it latches onto your body once more.

Withering Body

6th-Level Warlock (The Ancient Parasite) Feature   You have resistance to poison damage, and when you cast a spell that deals poison damage, you can add your Charisma modifier to the damage dealt.

Consume the Dying

10th-Level Warlock (The Ancient Parasite) Feature   When a creature dies within 10 feet of you, you regain the use of one of your Parasitic Touch dice.

Withering Soul

14th-Level Warlock (The Ancient Parasite) Feature   You have immunity to poison damage. Additionally, when you are targeted by an attack that deals poison damage, you can use your reaction to absorb the poison energy, regaining hit points equal to half the amount of damage the attack would have dealt to a creature without immunity to poison damage.
