Shadow Mage

The power of Shadow are an obsession for wizards who follow this school. Because they understand Shadow's tantalizing powers—and seek to learn more—these practitioners infuse their very beings with it to discover its secrets firsthand.

Forbidden Schools

1st-Level Wizard (Shadow Mage) Feature   As a shadow mage, you are barred from Abjuration and Evocation magic. As such, you cannot learn or cast spells of these schools unless it is also a Shadow spell. Alternatively, you can choose three schools which are considered your forbidden schools. You cannot choose Universal magic or Illusion as forbidden schools.

Shadow Symbiote

1st-Level Wizard (Shadow Mage) Feature   You bond a living shadow to your body, wearing it like a second skin. While you are bonded in this way, you gain the following:
  • You gain Darkvision out to a range of 60 feet.
  • You can see in magical darkness as though it were normal darkness out to a range of 30 feet.
  • You have Sunlight Sensitivity: While in sunlight, you have disadvantage on attack rolls, as well as on Wisdom (Perception) and Intelligence (Investigation) checks that rely on sight.

Shadow Savant

1st-Level Wizard (Shadow Mage) Feature   All Enchantment, Illusion, and Necromancy spells you learn automatically and permanently gain the Shadow descriptor. Additionally, you ignore the Rare descriptor of Shadow spells for the purpose of learning them.

Orb of Night

6th-Level Wizard (Shadow Mage) Feature   Your shadow symbiote can expand to hide you from foes. When a creature makes an attack roll against you, you can use your reaction to encase yourself in a 10-foot-radius sphere of magical darkness. If the triggering attack hits you, you can't use this feature on the attacker again until you finish a long rest. The darknes spersists until the beginning of your next turn.   You must choose to use this feature before knowing whether the attack hits or misses. Creature's that don't rely on eyesight are immune to this effect.

From the Shadows

10th-Level Wizard (Shadow Mage) Feature   Your shadow symbiote camouflages you, allowing you to get the drop on your enemies. Whenever you roll initiative while in dim light or darkness, you are automatically hidden from all creatures at least 10 feet away from you. You are no longer hidden if you move, attack, cast a spell, or manifest a psionic power.

Second Skin

14th-Level Wizard (Shadow Mage) Feature   Your shadow symbiote shares your pain. While in dim light or darkness, you gain a +2 bonus to AC and you gain resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage.
