Sanctified Descriptor

Sanctified spells are a special class of spells available to exalted spellcasters. These spells require sacrifice from the caster, but produce spectacular results.   A spellcaster prepares a sanctified spell exactly as he or she would prepare a normal spell. Evil-aligned creatures cannot use sanctified spells at all, even those cast from a magic item. If a sanctified spell is made into a potion, scroll, or other magic item, the user makes the sacrifice instead of the creator. This sacrifice, detailed in the spell description, is paid each time the item is activated.   Most sanctified spells have no material components, though there are exceptions. Instead, the caster sacrifices physical or metal energy, or in the case of certain high-level sanctified spells, one or more levels or even the caster's own life. This sacrifice occurs when the spell duration expires (no sanctified spell is permanent).   Interestingly, sanctified spells are unique to no single character class; a divine caster casts sanctified spells as divine spells, and arcane casters use them as arcane casters. While any class that cast spells of the appropriate level can use sanctified spells, exalted clerics have a special power: they can spontaneously cast them in place of a spell of the same level, thus never needing to prepare them.
