Oath of the Forgotten

Time erodes all things—empires crumble, names are lost, and even the greatest deeds fade from history. Not all that is forgotten, however, should remain so. Those who bind themselves to the Oath of the Forgotten swear themselves to uncovering the mysteries that time, deceit, or divine will have buried. They are seekers of lost truths, protectors of ancient wisdom, and wardens of knowledge that must not fall into the wrong hands.
Paladins who take this oath often serve deities of knowledge, fate, and hidden truths. Some walk in the footsteps of lost civilizations, unraveling secrets sealed away by history, while others seek to restore the legacies of those unjustly erased. They recognize that forgetting is both a weapon and a shield—some truths must be restored, and others must be hidden away for the safety of the world. To wield knowledge is to wield power, and they tread the line between revelation and secrecy.
The path of the Forgotten is a lonely one. Those who take this oath often vanish into forgotten places—ruins, crypts, and buried libraries—only to return with knowledge that may shape the world anew, if they return at all. Whether they act as heralds of revelation or silent sentinels against dangerous truths, these paladins know that their duty is greater than any one life. They are the voices of the past, ensuring that history is never truly lost.

Tenets of the Forgotten

1st-Level Paladin (Oath of the Forgotten) Feature

Though their specific oath and cause may vary, all paladins who swear an Oath of Devotion uphold the tenets below:
Seek the Hidden.Truth is never lost, only obscured. Follow the signs, unearth the past, and let no secret remain forgotten.
Guard the Unworthy. Not all knowledge is meant for all minds. Protect wisdom from those who would twist it for their own ends, and protect the weak minds of the world from knowledge too dangerous for them.
Interpret the Signs.Fate whispers in symbols and omens. Read them well, for they are the map to what is to come.
Balance Revelation and Silence.A truth spoken too soon may bring calamity. A truth withheld too long may be lost forever. Judge carefully when to reveal and when to conceal.

Channel Divinity

3rd-Level Paladin (Oath of the Forgotten) Feature
You gain the following two Channel Divinity options:
  • Prophetic Insight. You open your mind to glimpses of the future. For 1 minute, you gain advantage on initiative rolls and can’t be surprised. Additionally, the first time you make an attack roll, saving throw, or ability check each turn during this duration, you can roll a d4 and add it to the result.
  • Omen of Doom. You invoke an omen of misfortune upon a creature you can see within 30 feet. The first time the target makes an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw each turn for the next minute, it must roll a d4 and subtract the number rolled from the result.

  •

    Aura of Forewarning

7th-Level Paladin (Oath of the Forgotten) Feature
You constantly emanate a field of prescient awareness while you're not Incapacitated. The aura extends 10 feet from you in every direction, but not through total cover.
You and allies within your aura gain a supernatural sense of impending danger. When a creature within the aura would be hit by an attack, they can use their reaction to impose disadvantage on the attack roll.
At 18th level, the range of this aura increases to 30 feet.

    Keeper of Secrets

15th-Level Paladin (Oath of the Forgotten) Feature
Your connection to lost knowledge deepens, allowing you to shield minds and confound those who seek forbidden truths. You gain the following benefits:
  • You gain resistance to psychic damage.
  • You cannot be compelled to tell the truth or reveal information against your will, such as by means of Zone of Truth or similar effects.
  • When a creature you can see within 30 feet attempts to read your mind or detect your thoughts and you are aware of it, you can use your reaction to force them to make an Intelligence saving throw, taking 3d6 psychic damage and being Blinded on a failure, or half as much damage and not being blinded on a success.

  •

    Vision of the Seer

20th-Level Paladin (Oath of the Forgotten) Feature
You become an embodiment of prophecy and divine revelation, allowing you to see beyond the constraints of the present. As an action, you can enter a trance of perfect foresight for 1 minute, gaining the following benefits:
  • You gain Truesight to a range of 60 feet.
  • You can see Invisible and creatures and objects.
  • You gain advantage on all attack rolls, ability checks, and saving throws.
  • When an enemy you can see within 60 feet makes an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw, you can use your reaction to impose disadvantage on their roll.

  •   Once you use this feature, you can't do so again until you finish a long rest.
