Item Lore
5th Edition
You carefully study an item you touch over the course of the manifesting time. While manifesting this power, the item glows with a soft blue light, shedding dim light to a range of 5 feet, and you are unable to move.
When you finish manifesting this power, you learn the properties of the touched supernatural item, or learn that it is not supernatural in nature. The manifesting time of the power must be spent purifying the item and removing influences that would corrupt and blur its supernatural auras. Any consequences for handling the item affect the manifester as normal.
If the manifester rolls a 1 on his or her manifesting check, the power entirely fails in addition to gaining the Strain caused by failing. In addition to this, the manifester loses 8 points of Constitution, and must rest for 1 hour to recover each point of Constitution as the supernatural auras backlash and strike out at him or her. If this drops the manifester to below 1 Constitution, he or she falls Unconscious but does not die and must instead rest for 3 hours per lost point of Constitution. Consciousness is not regained until Constitution is fully restored, which takes 24 hours but can be reduced by any effect that restores lost Ability Scores. If the manifester rolls a 2 on his or her manifesting check, the power gives a false reading, giving faulty information on the effects of the power.
If the item has charges, only a general indication of the number of charges remaining is learned: powerful (81%-100% of the total possible charges), strong (61%-80%), moderate (41%-60%), weak (6%-40%)m or faint (5% or less, or five charges or less remaining). The faint result takes precedence, so a fully charged item that only has three maximum charges will always appear to be only faintly charged.
This power cannot learn the effects of Artifacts, Relics, or similar objects.
