High Half-Elf

Among the many children of elven and human union, the High Half-Elves are the most visible, the most widespread, and the most self-determined. Born of the noble high elven bloodlines—Sun, Moon, or Star—and mortal humanity, they inherit not only power, but expectation. Where others see division, High Half-Elves often see potential. They do not strive to belong to one world or the other—they seek to bridge both, or build something new entirely.

Presence and Society

High half-elves are found wherever elven and human cultures intersect, particularly in cities of mixed populations, border territorties, and academic or martial hubs. They are most numerous in Cetandar, where the ideals of versatiltiy, personal achievement, and strength-through-fusion are especially valued. In rare cases, communities founded and led by high half-elves have formed. These enclaves are far from nations, but are rather guild-fortresses, wandering camps, or cloistered academies—small but storied places where dual training in blade and spell is pursued with unmatched devotion.

Martial Legacy: The Arcane Knights

The most renowned cultural contribution of the high half-elves is their development of the Arcane Knight—a martial discipline inspired by but distinct from the Bladesinging traditions of the star elves. Where bladesingers rely on grace and lightness, arcane knights channel magic through metal and will, fusing spellcasting into plated armor, sigil-etched blades, and enchanted gauntlets. Their practice is pragmatic, often brutal, but deeply elegant in its own right—a style born from necessity and forged in experimentation.   Arcane knights do not guard their knowledge jealously like the bladesingers do. True to their blended heritage, they have passed it on to both humans and elves alike, among other races. Still, it is among the high half-elves that this art is most deeply rooted.

Appearance

High Half-Elves carry the unmistakable imprint of elven blood, but it is softened, blurred at the edges by their human heritage. Their bodies are leaner than those of most humans but broader and more solid than their elven kin. Their features are often called "refined" or "striking"—sharp cheekbones, gently pointed ears, and lithe frames that suggest grace even when standing still. Unlike full-blooded elves, they may grow facial and body hair, and in many cases, their elven traits are muted enough that, with their ears hidden and mannerisms subdued, they can pass as human. But to the keen observer, they seem just slightly more—more poised, more luminous, more present.   Most telling of their parentage are their eyes. Though they do not inherit the divine traits of their elven forebears—the moonlit glowing skin and hair of the Moon Elves, the radiant skin of the Sun Elves, or the starfield irises of the Star Elves—their gaze betrays their lineage. Those born of Star Elves often have pale grey or silver eyes, in which faint motes of light seem to glimmer in moments of silence or emotion. Sun-blooded High Half-Elves bear golden, amber, or copper eyes that shimmer with warmth and sharp focus, like candlelight behind glass. Meanwhile, those descended from Moon Elves may have deep violet, charcoal, or shadowed blue-grey eyes—calm, slow-blinking, and difficult to read. These subtle cues often unsettle those unfamiliar with elvenkind, yet fascinate those attuned to arcane or spiritual energies.   Their coloration and hair vary greatly, influenced by both their elven ancestry and their human environment. High half-elves may possess hair of pale hold, burnished chestnut, or ash-blond; some carry silver or white streaks even in youth, especially though of moon elven descent. Their skin tones are similarly broad in range—from hints of gold among sun elf lineage to more pale tones, though never as ghostly white as a true moon elf. Most tend toward the tone of their human lineage. To many, and especially to high elves, high half-elves are enigmas: beauty without divinity, grounded without being mundane. They exist somewhere between awe and approachability, drawing admiration, suspicion, and longing in equal measures.

Identity and Calling

High half-elves are not merely mediators or wanderers—they are architects of hybrid ideals. Many pursue roles that demand both structure and creativity: magical duelists, battlefield strategists, political envoys, or archivists of ancient lore. Their elven blood draws them to mastery; their human blood insists on action. This tension births innovation, and from that innovation, renown.   They are no more accepted than other half-elves—among elves they are still too swift and strange, among humans too distant and brilliant—but they often find prestige despite this alienation. They are proud without arrogance, and strong without cruelty. Many become instructors, guildmasters, or lone exemplars of disciplines no other singular race could have invented.

1High Half-Elves can be Conjurers, Enchanters, or Transmuters, but not Abjurers, Illusionists, Invokers, or Necromancers.
Special Advantages
High Half-Elves have infravision to a range of 60 feet.

Because of their acute senses, half-elves are quick to spot concealed doors and hidden entranceways. Merely passing within 10’ of a concealed door allows a half-elf a one-in-six chance (1 on 1d6) to notice it. If actively searching, a half-elf’s chances improve to a two-in-six chance (1-2 on 1d6) to find secret doors, and a three-in-six chance (1-3 on 1d6) to notice a concealed door.

Role-Playing Suggestions
Half-high elves often inherit the love of both swordplay and magic from their parents, especially if they are raised amongst their people.

Half-high elves are the most likely to seek to help teach others they perceive as less fortunate, rather than loking down upon them.
