Hail of Stone

3.5th Edition
You create a rain of stones that deal damage to creatures and objects they strike.   Make a ranged attack roll (not ranged touch) against every creature and relevant object in the spell's area.   Your bonus for this attack roll is equal to your caster level plus your relevant ability modifier (Intelligence for wizards or Charisma for sorcerers).   A successful hit deals 1d4 points of damage per caster level, to a maximum of 5d4.

5th Edition
You conjure a rain of stones above a point you can see in range, creating a 5-foot radius, 40-foot tall Cylinder of falling stones. Make a ranged spell attack against each creature in the area. On a hit, a target takes 3d4 bludgeoning damage.   At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a higher level spell slot, increase the damage by 2d4 for each slot level above its base level.

The caster holds a shard of jade in one hand, raises it above their head, and makes a clenched fist motion as if squeezing it. With a sharp downward gesture, they fling their hand toward the ground. As the motion completes, a cascade of conjured stones rains down.
