Guild Report - SL - Lighthouse SOS
General Summary
The lighthouse beacon on the small island about 20 miles to the west of Guildmast had started to blink on and off instead of producing its usually steady sweeping beam. The lighthouse has been owned and operated by the Skyhorn family for generations - long before the guild hall and surrounding town of Guildmast was established. Relations with Lucien Skyhorn, the lighthouse keeper, have been cordial and the lighthouse is a valuable safeguard against the treacherous reefs for any shipping or adventurers traveling west.
A guild party consisting of Swiftish (human bard of the college of love), Linke (half-elf fighter), Hector (human rogue) and Kent (human fighter) sailed off to investigate why it was blinking. The party found the lighthouse overrun by a strange sort of aquatic humanoid creature, and after rescuing Lucien, he named them as Eelfolk. Eelfolk fight with javelins and long knives, but the party found the most their most dangerous oddity was that upon death they released arcs of electrical damage (a byproduct of their storm worship). Swiftish thought their leathery, rubbery skin would make a nice outfit and convinced Linke to skin several.
The party discovered that the Eelfolk's plan was to use the lighthouse's Bowl of Commanding Water Elementals - usually used to guide ships away from rocks, particularly during storms - to instead drag ships onto the rocks to be plundered. However, the Eelfolk's summoning attempts had been less than successful so rather lose more Eelfolk summoners to angry water elementals, the Eelfolk were now forcing the crew of a captured ship, the Jade Lion, to do the summoning instead. Things looked grim after Kent deliberately emptied water from his soggy boot all over Swiftish (who at this stage was the only one of the party who had managed to remain perfectly dry while all the others were totally drenched) and found himself on the wrong end of an upcast Thunder Wave inflicting massive damage, knocking him off the dock into the water, and alerting the Eelfolk guards to the party's presence. However, the party rallied to defeat the Eelfolk with Kent employing an innovative use of the Battlemaster's ability Commander's Strike to command the sailor currently enthralled in the summoning ritual to break his focus and move out of harm's way.
The captain of the Jade Lion, Aryn Hest, rewarded the party with 200gp each for saving his ship, crew and cargo (and the guild has gained a favourably inclined contact). Lucien further rewarded the party with a Mariner's Coin which when presented to a non-hostile sailor will grant advantage on one Charisma check to influence him or her.
