Nerites (a.k.a. Nera)
Nerites was a son of Nereus, the Old Man of the Sea, and a mortal of extraordinary beauty and grace. His radiance captivated both gods and mortals, but none more so than Poseidon and Apollo, who vied for his affections. Nerites, bound by his loyalty to the sea and his family, chose to remain in the waters, rejecting both deities. His decision incited jealousy and anger, as neither Poseidon nor Apollo could bear the thought of losing him. Each sought to punish him in their own way, leading to conflict and chaos across the divine realms.
To prevent further strife, Aphrodite intervened, convincing Poseidon and Apollo to spare Nerites’ life but remove him from their reach forever. Together, the gods agreed to exile Nerites to Tír na nÓg, a realm beyond Olympus and the mortal world. In this land of eternal beauty and harmony, Nerites was freed from their possessive grasp, allowed to live without fear of divine retribution. While Tír na nÓg was a far cry from the seas he once called home, its rivers, lakes, and shimmering shores offered him a sanctuary to start anew.
