Danuz Tarhanni (a.k.a. Daan)
Danuz works with a fragility that requires strength, and a strength that respects fragility. His Hittite-style glasswork is often mistaken for crystal—thick, layered with trapped bubbles, or impossibly smooth with inner bands of smoke-like color. He shapes with breath and fire, forming vessels that seem to hold more than their volume.
He rarely speaks while heating glass, but afterward he’ll explain the metaphor of each shape in exacting detail. One orb reflects light like a flame in water. Another, when tapped, hums at the pitch of his own heartbeat. He often finishes pieces by pressing fingerprints into the base, not as a mark of ownership, but of intimacy.
To Danuz, clarity and distortion are not opposites. “All vision is shaped by what holds it,” he says. “So be careful who makes your windows.”
