Bababiljos (bah-bah-BEEL-yohs)

Romani Deity

Bababiljos

Bababiljos, also known as Kamav Devla, is the Romani god of male love, desire, and romantic mischief. He is a rare divine figure who blesses queer passion directly, often portrayed as a beautiful youth whose presence stirs longing and creative abandon. He governs the hidden glances between tents, the longing songs sung by the fire, and the thrill of desire that doesn’t ask for permission.   Among Romani men who could not speak their truths aloud, Bababiljos became a spirit of refuge and rebellion. His name is whispered in love songs and painted in the margins of old caravan symbols. He is not overtly ritualized—but his presence is unmistakable in moments of bold flirtation and forbidden intimacy.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

He appears as a golden-skinned youth with curling black hair, eyes like dusk fire, and a sash of many colors. Flowers often bloom along his path, and he carries a flute said to drive even the stern to softness.

Mental characteristics

Sexuality

Bababiljos is wholly erotic and unashamed. He seeks passion in its purest form—honest, tender, dangerous. His lovers are bold, wounded, or hidden. He draws them out, then dances with their joy like wind through smoke.
