The Torn Wars
The Torn Wars were two separate wars culminating in the destruction of human society and their enslavement by the Dragon King Niviras. These wars also brought the wrath of the Druids upon El'dor, causing them to rip a part of the continent of Thanadira up into the sky. No one remembers exactly when the Orcs attacked, but sometime in the sixtieth century the place which would come to be called Mirogum Bay was infiltrated by a barbarous alien species called Orcs. The details of the invasion certainly lie somewhere beneath the ruins of Torandirsi, but little is known about how it all took place at this point. What is known is that a great light appeared, visible even from Baeradiron, or so it is said. The light turned out to be a doorway or sorts, leading from the Orcish home world of Mugorim to that very bay on El'dor which grew to be the place from which the Orcs launched their invasion. Humanity caught the full brunt of the invasion as it was their country, Torandria, which sat between Mirogum Bay and the rest of the continent of Thanadira. This was the first full scale conflict in the history of El'dor, and the enemy came from without.
Humanity was swift to respond, though, and put up a valiant defense, however they saw no end in sight. The Orcs were quick to replenish their numbers, and while it did not seem that they would be able to overpower Torandria, the Humans wanted a way to decisively end the conflict. They sought help from the other species' of El'dor. Having been mostly separated from the other peoples of El'dor for more than eight-hundred years, humanity had little ground to stand on with them. The human king sought an audience with the other world rulers, but was ultimately refused by them. They heard his request but did not want to make a hasty decision. The king told them that if not for the human defense the Orcs would reach each of them in turn, but they still could not decide whether to help or not.
During this time the Orcs were sailing up the east side of the Dragon's Tail. The lands were unsettled so there was no resistance. The Orcs, masters of the forge, built a massive weapons building facility in the heart of a volcano. Their work caused the land to be bathed in lava and the waters around their new islands to burn. It was the perfect environment for a species which was impervious to extreme heat.
The war raged on between the Humans and Orcs, neither able to defeat the other. One hundred and sixty-seven years passed before a messenger Dragonite was sent to the humans to invite the king to an audience with the rulers of the Dragons and Elves. The new king, Toreador, a strong and fair warrior of a man, and his twin brother Torelon met the other rulers at the great stone called Koran's Heart. There Toreador accepted their assistance and a plan was drawn up to defeat the Orcs. All present signed "The Pact" and an alliance was forged. Toreador did not make it obvious to the other leaders that they would soon have overpowered the Orcs on their own, as their technological strength had grown to such a degree that the Orcs had little hope left. Instead, Toreador accepted The Pact and hoped to forge a peaceful future with the other species on El'dor.
The Orc War took a turn then and the Orcs were subdued and forced to return to their home world. At the end of the Orc War in the year 6207, a third meeting between the rulers of El'dor took place. At this meeting Toreador requested of the Dragons that he be allowed to relocated Koran's Heart to Torandria to both protect it and to use its power to keep any further portals from being opened to El'dor. Niviras vehemently refused. An outburst from Torelon broke the peace and the King and his brother was told to leave. The wise Elven ruler was angry, knowing that Niviras had likely just started another war.
Torelon demanded that Toreador attack the Dragons and take Koran's Heart for their own. Toreador, weary from the war and anxious to give his people peace for the first time in centuries, refused. In a fit of rage Torelon murdered Toreador. Of course he hid this from the Nine, instead choosing to lie and claim that Niviras the Dragon King had struck down Toreador in anger at their request for Koran's Heart. This enraged the country of Torandria and the people were fully in support of Torelon as he went to war for Koran's Heart. This war became known as the Great War, the second of the Torn Wars. Humanity's strength had grown so much, though, that the Dragon's and Elves had no hope of overpowering them. With every battle humanity grew closer to Koran's Heart and seizing it for themselves.
Seeing no way to win the Great War, the Dragon King called upon the Druids, an unfathomably powerful race of celestial beings, to assist the dragons and elves lest they fall into defeat and humanity go on to take on the universe at large. The Druids agreed to assist, preferring harmony rather than war, and temporarily lent the Dragons enough power to defeat the humans and their powerful magical technology. This power came at a price, though. Until such a time as the intelligent species of El'dor reconciled and learned to live in peace, the dragons would have to live on Taresirat, which is the floating isle of Dragon Ark. The Druids ripped the dragon country from the face of El'dor and hung it in the sky for all of Thanadira to see. The Dragons lives would depend upon their proximity to Taresirat. They could leave but staying gone too long would mean death. Their very life force was tied to the City of Ascension on the edge of Dragon Ark. The Druids had another requirement, though, that the Dragons would come to regret. In order to survive the Dragons would be forced to consume the substance veingold. They would no longer be able to consume meat or plants to sustain themselves. They would have to obtain veingold from the chasms through which it once flowed mightily and consume it or die. To accomplish this the Dragons would force humans to do the work for them, subjugating them and putting them in a place where they'd never be able to build up their military strength again.
