Measurement Systems on El'dor

There are two commonly used systems of measurement on El'dor: the Common System and the Precise System.   The Common System has been in use by the different species of El'dor for millennia and is centered around the simple use of "fines," "flows," and "fenns." One fine is equal in length to the size of the average Elven finger. One flow is equal in length to the width of eight Elven fingers when both index fingers are placed side-by-side. One fenn is equal to three flows. This system worked fine for a very long time, as Elves and Dragonites were not inclined to be engineers or to create machines.   However, when Yashu, the first human, was inventing new things early in his life, he found the Common System was not nearly exact enough for his purposes. As a result of this he developed the Precise System. The system relies on extremely exact measurements that are not dependent upon changing factors like the size of Elven fingers.   Yashu created measurement devices called "Brigam Blocks." He sized these small blocks to match the extremely consistent size of the holes in tree trunks created by the Brigam, a large, multicolored bird which finds food by pecking its beak into the wood of trees. The size of said holes are always consistent in size among full sized Brigams, which Yashu confirmed after months of studying the birds. The holes were big enough that most adult male Elves could comfortably put his entire thumb inside the trunk of a tree through one of the holes.   As this was the only consistent measurement Yashu could find in nature, he modeled the Brigam Blocks after them. He then went on to create measurement sticks which came to be known as Yashu Blocks which were equal to twelve Brigam Blocks in length. Eventually, the length of a Yashu Block simply came to be known as a "block," while the smaller size of the Brigam Block came to be known as a "brig."   [needs more development]
