Episode 64

General Summary

Back at The Gilded Wing, Collective Action spend time discussing their next steps. After weighing options, they decide to split up.   Celine and Meepo head into the sewers, hoping to find traces of an underground railroad. While they find some discarded items and knickknacks, there's no sign that any Angelkin have passed through recently. Pressing on, they eventually discover a staircase—the only one of its kind—which ascends to the street level. At the top, a locked door bars their way. Meepo easily picks the lock, only for the duo to come face to face with a towering construct—a polite but formidable construct, which warns them to leave or face consequences. Choosing caution, they retreat, but they’re fairly certain this door leads directly into the Temple of Lost Stars.   Meanwhile, Blair and Groban return to The Velvet Haven so Groban can "sample the local entertainment." He’s escorted to a private room and confirms that Maeve’s friend "Millie" is indeed Celestia, formerly of Madame X. At the same time, Blair enjoys a quiet drink at the bar, awaiting Groban’s return.   Barnabus and Roan remain at The Gilded Wing, waiting for their companions. Eventually, the party regroups and shares everything they’ve learned. Groban deduces that Meepo and Celine encountered an Iron Golem—a powerful creature best avoided.   Their conversation is interrupted by a man named Roran Steelclaw, the owner of another tavern in town called The Broken Halo. He’s heard about their investigation and wants to help. His best bouncer, Eliza Dragonsbane, vanished recently. Eliza was a fearsome fighter and not the type to disappear without a trace—yet, like the others, she’s simply gone, her weapon the only thing missing.   As they speak, a feather appears on the table—seemingly from nowhere. When someone picks it up, it transforms into a note that reads: "Temple. Midnight."   Later that night, the group approaches the Temple of Lost Stars, scouting it quietly. There are lights inside—someone is home. Meepo, ever proactive, throws a dagger through an open window and uses it to teleport inside. Unfortunately, the Angelkin within sees him immediately. A second figure, emerging from the shadows, somehow knows Meepo’s trigger word—“Ticklecorn”—and activates him.   Now under command, Meepo is instructed to remove his companions by force if necessary. He steps back outside and tells the party to leave. When they refuse, he attacks. Thankfully, the group is somewhat prepared this time. They quickly polymorph Meepo into a pug and stuff him into the Bag of Holding for safekeeping.   With no time to waste, the party storms the temple. The two Angelkin are trying to leave, but the white-haired stranger in silver robes attempts to cast a spell—only to be counterspelled by Groban. The stranger, caught off-guard, snarls that they’ll regret this, as the confrontation begins to escalate into a full-blown fight.
