Episode 61

General Summary

The armored spectre vanishes through the wall, leaving Collective Action stunned—but also vindicated. The mansion is haunted, after all. Some of the adventurers immediately attempt to track the ghost, their search leading them back to the dusty, abandoned bedroom—but the spirit is nowhere to be found.   Returning empty-handed, the group refocuses on Alexis’ mysterious curse. With no progress from magical or romantic attempts, the party agrees to tell Alexis' parents the truth, hoping a sincere act of familial love might succeed where others have failed.   Lady Genevieve Dawnmire is resistant at first, struggling to grasp the situation—or perhaps just reluctant to acknowledge it. Eventually, she is persuaded. She leans over her son, delivering a stiff and half-hearted kiss. Nothing happens. The party is left uncertain: is she not the one to break the curse, or was her heart not in it?   Talk turns once more to the spectre—the ghost of Eryndor Dawnmire, the disgraced paladin. Genevieve waves it off as family myth, insisting the missing pages from his biography were lost long ago. But Lord Percival Dawnmire interrupts. Quiet and stern, he reveals that he does have the missing pages—passed down to him by Genevieve’s father.   Celine joins Percival in retrieving the pages. As they do, the ghost reappears briefly, standing watchfully near the hidden documents before vanishing once more.   The pages reveal a letter written by Eryndor himself. In it, he speaks of betrayal—of how the Dawnmire family turned against him, and of a curse tied to their broken legacy. The letter casts the family’s proud lineage in a much darker light and suggests Alexis' slumber might be the echo of ancient sins, repeating once more.   Shaken, Genevieve asks for time. Accepting Alexis for who he is—and letting him go—might be the only way to save him. But doing so could mean rewriting generations of tradition and reputation.   Following up on clues in the letter, the party splits to investigate. In the garden, they find wilted, corrupted patches of soil. In the wine cellar, certain bottles have turned sour. The land itself seems to reflect the rot of the family’s legacy.   Meanwhile, the ghost continues to appear sporadically, unsettling guests and even interrupting a young couple mid-tryst.   Then, it returns once more—this time in Alexis’ bedroom. It speaks directly to the sleeping noble, its riddles weighted with pain and accusation.   Moments later, Marcella arrives, seeking an update. She confesses her own doubts: if Alexis' bloodline is cursed, then even if he awakens, she may not want to marry into it. As she turns to leave, the ghost materializes again—this time with purpose. In a flash of spectral energy, it seizes Marcella and vanishes through the wall.   Roan catches sight of the spectre in the garden below, and Collective Action spring into action—leaping from the window in pursuit.   They confront the ghost in the mist-shrouded garden. It is furious, confused, and lashing out at everything—past, present, and future. The battle is intense, but the adventurers prevail. The spectre is defeated, dissipating with a final, anguished cry.   Back inside, the group finds Marcella unconscious in the abandoned bedroom, cold but alive. They carry her back to Alexis’ chambers, where both Dawnmire parents wait anxiously.   Genevieve tries once more. This time, her voice wavers with emotion, and her kiss is heartfelt. She tells her son that he is free—that he can live his life as he chooses.   Still, Alexis sleeps.   In the awkward silence that follows, Marcella mutters, half-joking, that Alexis probably loves himself more than anyone else anyway. The party shares a look. A mirror is fetched and pressed gently to Alexis’ lips.   To the collective groans of everyone present, his eyes flutter open.   Alexis Dawnmire awakens—to his own reflection.
