Peragris Root

Overview

Peragris Root is a commonly found vegetable-type plant cultivated in warm or temperate climates around the world of Ekesh. Used as a foodstuff since the Kal-Vorduan era of world civilization. Initially, it grew wild in the Sluydmarshes of Ulumak but it was later spread and grown across the planet.

Description

Peragris Root is a medium sized-ground plant with a long, thin stem and four smooth deep green leaves. The plant's roots are large, tuberous bulbs that are full of protein and electrolye-rich flesh. Grown in circulation with other plants used for food or utility (i.e. Barrakorn Wheat, Kamril Silkplant) to keep soil fresh and healthy.

Subtypes

In every crop grown by nearly every sedentary polity in all of Ekesh, there is bound to be variation among the plants. In Aeldomir the Titan Variant, known for large bulbs, is predominantly grown, while in Phal the Zhiwu variant is grown for its medicinal properties.

Use by civilizations

Through the millions of years of its cultivation, Peragris Root has been used in several ways. Shortly after its discovery, the plant had far smaller root tubers and was mostly used as a plant for trinket-making as the tubers were far tougher than they are today. But over time, Peragris Root was selectively bred for new properties like larger leaves or fleshier bulbs leading to new uses emerging. Orcs have cultivated the plant since at most their awakening as they introduced the plant to the wider world through the markets of Kal-Vordu. Many civilizations used the leaves' restorative properties for alchemy and medicine. Dwarves turn the leaves into a paste strong enough to hold scaffolding together. Another common use for the Peragris Root is that the leaves can be ground and used to create spiced, luxury tea.
