The Banks
At the feet of the southern end of the mesa, the rock cliffs give way to a massive archway pass in the stone where the Silver River flows under it. Over time, the river has worn a wide and low path through the solid rock of the mesa and has created quite a large space that the people of Raone settled as soon as they could find a way down through the old mine shaft. Today, The Banks is a sprawling city occupied mostly by some of the poorest people in Raone who tend to work in the assembly workshops, warehouses, and docks of The Banks or take the nearby elevators to work up top in the trade-based workshops under a master in a trade.
The intricate and heavy elevator system is one of the key functions of the Dom and Elaria. A series of large platforms are moved by large cogs, chains, and pumps that allow large quantities of materials, livestock, and people from the elevators base on the northeast side of The Banks to the mesa's topside. Both ends are heavily guarded by the Leyvarr Guard as well as at the small stations in between.
From afar, The Banks appears as a shadowy arch in the cliffside of the mesa with buildings spilling out of it. Once closer, the archway is much taller and a thin slit of daylight is visible through the shadows. Under the arch, it looks as if its a bright as an overcast day (during the day) or a half moon at night due to large bulbous lamps that cling to the ceiling and give off a warm glow during the day or a greenish cast of dim light at night.
There are three major roads that cut through the chaotic street layout if the city, and its recommended that visitors stick to these during their stay. All other streets are a labyrinthine mess of alleyways, backstreets, and bridges that are easy for non locals to get lost in.
