Ornthalas Enfiel

Ornthalas was born in the cliff city of Alarya in the old world 348 years before the portal. He was born to Thalandril and Eliana Efiel, both high elves of the Sky tribe and respected nobles in the cliff city. Being the third son had its advantages, and Ornthalas reveled joyously in his freedom to explore and satisfy his innate and insatiable curiosity about the world and how everything worked. After an incident with the drapes, silver candlesticks, missing pantry ingredients and a small raging fire in the parlor, it was decided he would spend the couped up winters with his uncle Thanal in the country, where his father hoped he would cause less trouble and damage.   His uncle had a reputation for being a stern and wise teacher, but few knew that Ornthalas’ winters there at the lakeside town would help direct his curiosity, rather than quiet it. During his first week there, he fell and was badly injured, but his aunt, Lucritia was a master of herbology and Ornthalas was instantly fascinated and asked incessant questions. Lucritia was patient and answered, and thus his love of herbology was born.   His drawings shifted from how lanterns work to plants, the land, and maps of biomes. His uncle had him redraw all his own maps once he saw the natural skill of his nephew and invited his old war buddy, a cartographer, to stay with them for a few days. Sparking Ornthalas’ love of maps and gaining an invitation to travel with the retired war veteran and wizard on a far away journey that would be his first real adventure. Ornthalas learned everything he could from his new mentor, Taranath Keyris, and trained as a Wizard under him for a few years until fate had them part ways.   He met his lifelong love when he was a spry young lad of 23 on his first real adventure outside the city of his birth. Annalise was an elf of similar age to him, though they found themselves on opposite sides of a sticky situation. He ended up in a cage because of her, and looking back on it all now, it’s their running joke. Their paths crossed multiple times as he traveled learning cartography and herbology and getting himself into trouble along with his plucky group of travelers. She was a traveling musician, performer, and thief on the side, eventually joining his team without realizing it due to a common goal. She had a rule of no romantic interests while working, and him being him, found a lovely way to work around that, pursuing her in the midst of their grand adventure.   But all good things must come to an end and once the goal was completed, she had duties to fulfill and disappeared in the night. Leaving him with brief letter and a promise of fate. Years later, their paths crossed once again, and by then, both realized their true feelings for the other and beat the odds. They got married after the dust settled and had a couple of adorable elflings. (around age 165)   When the mad king began making moves in Alarya, Ornthalas and Annalise had already been living there and had raised two children in the city, Oriel and Nalan. Both had positions in the city of note, and they used those positions to help the people. Gathering intel on troop movements, fielding info from the Archivists, or helping to steal food and supplies to feed the people. In their adventures, both had seen what good rulers and selfish rulers were. When the portal opened to allow the throngs of people to safety, Ornthalas and his eldest son, Oriel, were on a mission to gather the last of the Archivists being held captive, eventually coming face to face with the mad king. After the harrowing encounter, only Ornthalas, his son, and one other Guard survived out of the rescuers. By the time they reached the portal, it had been fading for a while and was at the end of it's power. Ornthalas insisted on the Archivists going first, most of whom made it before it closed. Ornthalas, Oriel, and a small handful of Archivists remained in the old world.   Ornthalas doesn't tell the story of how long he was lost in the old world or how he ended up in another portal, but it was excellent timing when he did arrive. He was the only one who came through and he landed in the middle of a battlefield in the northern reach in 23 AP. The tired forces of Elaria had been chasing Jana the Shadow and her bandit clans and had been ambushed. Ornthalas arrived, landing in a blur of colored smoke, and helped turned the tide of the battle. Annalise was among the fighters and they were reunited once more.   Today, Ornthalas is famous among scholars and Alchemists in the Dom for a number of inventions, innovations, ideas, and the wisdom of his experience. He mapped the valley and nearby areas, but mostly leaves any far distant areas for his apprentices if they wish to travel beyond the Dom. He helped with the design and construction of the palaces in Elaria, the elevator systems in the mesa and mines of Dett, and creating a number of potions helpful to the people of Raone.   Today, Ornthalas is famous among scholars and Alchemists in the Dom for a number of inventions, innovations, ideas, and the wisdom of his experience. It's in his nature to learn from those mistakes, shrug it off and move on, but not everyone accepts that and he has ended up with a bit of a high risk reputation.   In recent years, he spends his time working on his own projects in his home labs and training his apprentices. He travels between his home in Elaria and the family estate in Carmela, both of which he shares with his wife, Annalise. They have two children since he arrived in the valley, a third son, Garunth (born in 27, 156 yrs old) and a daughter, Lilianna (born in 41, 142 yrs old).   Although he has lived through many kings’ reigns and has traveled the known world (before the portal) there to map it and learn alchemy and herbology, he still has the twinkle of adventure and mischief in his eye when he both speaks of the past and looks forward to discoveries in the future.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Ornthalas is tall (6'1") and lean, but still quite fit and spry for his age. He is fair skinned, with freckles and his arms and neck are a light olive toned from being tanned due to some outside work in the gardens. His blonde and grey hair is rather short for elven culture and brushes his shoulders, but is still neatly braided back out of his eyes (mostly in thanks to his wife, Annalise).

Facial Features

He has a prominent scar across his face that has long since healed.

Physical quirks

Ornthalas moves with a natural innate elven grace, but his own quirks are layered on top of that. Although originally born into nobility, Ornthalas prefers comfort and will often walk into the lab to teach his apprentices while still wearing nightrobes or dirty from garden work. He occasionally moves as if he's dodging an object only he can see. When sitting or standing still, there is always some part of him that is in constant motion. A finger twitching, or toe tapping, etc.

Apparel & Accessories

He keeps his clothing simple and prefers comfort over pomp and fanciery any time, but will dress up in formal attire only when necessary. He is always seen with a speical belt that has a small pouch with a handful of vials and will even swap out belts on a formal outfit to accomodate this.
