Lightdale

A simple one street dusty town, Lightdale is best known for the unbeatable will of the people who call it home. As well as one of the best Praon trainers in the Dom. Founded in 119 AP by hopeful people looking for a good opportunity for sourcing stone from the rocky hillsides just to the east, as well as good farmland, their hopes were nearly dashed after bandit raids almost destroyed the town. The people kept fighting back and rebuilding, despite their low odds. When a group of half-orcs traveled to the town to offer their protection, many assumed it was a trap. But over time, the town’s half-orc fighting force proved their salt and the only reward they asked for was a place to call home.   Today, the town is not as prominent as it’s citizens think it should be, but it is nonetheless a strong town with a balanced amount of grit, determination, and contentedness with their lot. The bandit raids are extremely few and far between, if any, but this is one of the few towns where half-orcs have a seat on the town council.   The town’s resources are few and simple. The farmland is good for grain crops, the stones nearby offer decent stone for masons and so Stone Cutters (similar to quarrying) is a legit trade. Prospectors are also common. These people roam the hillsides looking for resources, keeping an eye out for signs of roving bandits, and hunting the small game that live in the hills, called “The Bones” by the locals.   There is a tavern and inn (with stables), a general store, an apothecary, a school building, a blacksmith, and the Town Hall, which houses offices for the Guilds and Associations present. None of the guilds have an official hall, though the Axe and Scythe has the largest presence for registration. Meetings and a local rep still meet in the town hall.

Taverns & Inn

Wanderer's Rest (Tavern/Inn)   Situated on the western edge of the town, facing Pelor’s Way, the two story stone building welcomes weary travelers with its friendly garden and shaded tables. The entire southern side is a large patio shaded by Pelor’s Ivy (a sun loving creeping vine with large leaves) and where people come and sit, refill their water flagons at the well and eat from the hearty kitchen of the Inn.   The building is mostly stone with a thatched roof. A barn and fenced in area on the north side is the stables and mount sections. It’s well organized to keep certain types of mounts separate.   Wanderer's Rest is run by Isabelle and Ignus Storkfetter.  Isabelle is a cheerful and bubbly Halfling who welcomes all and runs the Inn and Tavern.  Ignus is a Half-Dwarf who looks all sour at a glance, but is quite friendly once you get him chatting. Little Beth is the regular barkeep for the Tavern and is in charge when Isabelle isn’t present.     Jim's Porch (not really a tavern, but close enough)   There's no sign and there's hardly even one table, but locals are aware that Jim brews a finer brew than expected and he invites people over to his porch for a cold drink (or warm one in the colder seasons). People often toss him a coin or two to help his efforts in the future. He often spins tales for folks about his war days. For festival days, he’ll gather multiple crates near his front porch to accommodate “all his friends”.

Shops

General Store   A simple two story building on the one street town, there’s a long stone porch that runs all along the front with wooden benches. Inside is a large room with shelves along most of the walls and a few crates in the middle with small and medium grain sacks on top in neat rows. A gnome and a half-orc are deep in discussion of where to put the dried beans and if they should be next to the grains or lentils.   Owners are Rimdog Snufflegut (Gnome) and Isak (Half-orc). Business partners and long-time friends, the two are always bickering like brothers.   Apothecary   On the main road, a small one story hut is set back a little, with a lovely garden. A few bees can be spotted here and there on a flower, lazily collecting pollen. A cozy porch is under a small cover at the front door, which is already open.   Stepping inside reveals a room that only takes four people to crowd. A small kitchen and hearth is in the corner, where a kettle bubbles with liquid.     Leyvarr Guard Station   On the well-traveled Pelor’s Way road stands a tall stone and wood tower with a peaked roof. On approach, the tower is built into the side of a sturdy stone structure that looks like a fort, only much smaller. On the road front, the heavy wooden gates stand open, revealing a training yard, stables, and smith stands. Barracks for a small force are also housed within the structure.    Station Sergeant:

Demographics

A good mix of human, half-elf, half-orc, teifling, and a few gnomes and halflings. Lightdale is one of the few towns where there are more half-orcs than typical Raone towns. This due to it's history of being a target for bandits.

Government

As typical of a small town, the Town Council is the highest form of local government. The council consists of locally elected members of the community (5), the local Archivist, and local Station Sergeant.

Defences

The Leyvarr Guard has a Station posted on the main road, Pelor's Way, and just west of it.   The town used to be the target of frequent bandit attacks, but the past couple decades has seen little to no attacks. The town still remembers and keeps their guard up, sending strong prospectors into the rocky hillsides (called "The Bones" by locals) to find valuable resources, as well as signs of bandit activity.

Infrastructure

The town is small and simple, and that reflects in it's construction and layout. The town center is just one dusty road just east of Pelor's Way and perpiendicular to it. The buildings are a combination of stone and wood construction, stone making up the first floor and a thatched roof or wooden second story if there is one. Homesteads and Ranchs are scattered around the town center.
