Adventurers are divided into four groups by class (their general approach to combat) and archetype (their specific style within that class). Player characters start the game with neither. Those who wish to become adventurers will need to find a trainer of the desired class. By talking with the trainer, the character can gain that class directly. If the player wishes to take on an archetype as well (which is advisable), they will have to find an experienced NPC of that archetype who is willing to teach them in exchange for completing a quest. The archetype must be one of the three for their class. Upon completing the quest, the PC can now begin unlocking special abilities of that archetype. Each PC can have only one class and one archetype.
Class: Modifies base attributes, provides access to certain skills and determines their thresholds, provides certain abilities, and determines the number of EP & SP. Class level is used to calculate CP gain from combat.
Archetype: Determines abilities, unlocks skills, and modifies stats.
Advancement
Characters advance in their class by succeeding in combat. This gains them CP, or class points. Players can use CP to level up, summon their corpse, or to remove negative effects.
Each archetype has five advancement trees. Each tree consists of a series of nodes that can be unlocked by completing challenges. The nodes can grant new abilities or stat increases. Gaining access to the next tree does not require completing every node. It does require finding an NPC teacher and completing the quest to gain their favor.
