Corpses
Corpses remain in the game for seven minutes. Initially, only the character or party that slew the deceased can loot. After five minutes, anyone can loot it. Looting a corpse carries a faction hit with most factions if observed and can give the looter Reputation.
General controls related to corpses:
- Shift + F1 will target the nearest corpse.
- Shift + F2 will cycle through nearby corpses.
- Shift + F3 will cycle back through the previously targeted corpses.
Corpse Interactivity Options:
Right click opens loot window for targeted corpse. Money is automatically split with the party (this can be turned off for each player in their options menu). Other loot is free for the taking, so groups may want to establish a rule for how to handle it. A message will tell all group members when something is looted from a group kill along with a hyperlink allowing them to see the details of the item looted. Shift + Right Click brings up action menu with the following options (grayed out if non-applicable or if you lack the necessary tools).- Remove (submenu): head, ear, eye, tooth, hand, claw, scalp. These options are generally used to obtain quest items. Most merchants will not buy these items (although certain reagent vendors will).
- Skin - Uses the skinning skill; if successful, provides a hide/skin.
- Butcher - Uses the butcher skill; if successful, provides meat
- Commune - Shamans and priests can learn to speak to the spirits of the dead.
- Cremate - This prevents the corpse from rising as undead. It does not prevent the spirit of the deceased from becoming an incorporeal undead should the conditions be right. Requires one of the following tool/ability combinations: fire + wood (survival, consumes the wood), fire + oil (consumes the oil), fire magic.
- Bury - Requires a shovel. Characters who have red On Quietus, Peace for the Fallen, or Ensuring a Natural Rest can consecrate a grave to prevent the corpse from reanimating as undead. This requires reagents and litanies as determined by the respective works.
