Uuna & Aurus

Twin Gods of the Moons, Night, Sleeping, and Healing (a.k.a. The Twins)

An unmistakable trait of Ehldaron are the 2 moons that circle around the world and grant a little light at night. Only about once a year both moons are in the ‘new moon’ phase at the same time, their absence causing the night to become pitch black, illuminated only by distant stars.   The 2 moons are Uuna and Aurus, and are in fact believed to be twin Gods watching over the realm. The Twins are considered to be the youngest Gods of the entire pantheon, no more than children or at most adolescencents.   Because of their young age the legends of Uuna and Aurus tell stories of mischievous children that enjoy playing harmless pranks on the older Gods as well as mortals, but the two Child Gods also have a serious side. During the night they carefully watch over the world, granting pleasant dreams to those asleep, and guarding those that venture out into the dark. The Moons, and thus the Twin Gods, are also known for their powerful healing abilities. While the injured and sick sleep, Uuna and Aurus help them heal.     Beliefs and purpose   As the Twin Gods of the moon and night, Uuna and Aurus are responsible for the wellbeing and safety of everyone during the night. Since the majority of people are asleep then, the Twins try to make sure that everyone has a good night’s sleep. They drive away the nightmares and grant pleasant dreams instead. It is said that Uuna especially loves watching the dreams of mortals, and occasionally uses those dreams to mess with people in a light-hearted way. In addition, sleep is often considered to be an important factor when one is injured or sick. Here it is mostly Aurus that is said to visit those that need healing, whether it’s physically or mentally, and speeds up the recovery process. Injured and sick that heal overnight sometimes claim they had a dream of a young blonde boy in beautiful white and light blue robes coming to visit them and taking care of them. That young boy is said to be a fragment of Aurus that came to visit, and helped them heal. Last, but certainly not least, the Twins also guard the world from physical dangers and evil that rises during the night. Those asleep, or the ones that have to travel during the night, often find great comfort in the thought that the Twins are watching over them, and are making sure they’re safe.   Uuna and Aurus do not a have a set group of beliefs that dictate how one has to live their life. Instead they simply say “Do the best you can to help other people”, a rather vague description that is probably the result of an innocent child’s notion of good and evil where it’s often clear what is good and what is bad. The lack of concrete rules and descriptions leaves a lot of room open for interpretation in many situations, and results in followers of the Twin Gods to trust in their gut when it’s unclear what to do. While some dislike the vagueness of their beliefs and the lack of focus on what one should do as expected by a society, others see it as a welcome change from the more common stern Deities like Celios. One thing is certain however: Uuna and Aurus are benign deities that mean well.     Followers   Uuna and Aurus are minor Gods and that are often seen to be part of the “Caretakers” faction of Gods, lead by Celios. While they have little in common with Gods such as Celios and Lox, they are still benign deities that strive for the wellbeing of mortals, and the Twins are very close to the Goddess Ahdah (according to some stories she is their mother, but other stories contradict this). Uuna and Aurus are commonly worshipped in the majority of nations. Therefore it is not uncommon for people to have a small token of the Twin Gods hanging over their bed, believing that it will bring them a good night’s rest.   Few cities have dedicated temples to Uuna and Aurus however, although most nations have at least a few places where the Twin Gods are revered above all the others, often in beautiful temples that take maximum advantage of the beauty of the night, the moons, and the stars. Instead Uuna and Aurus are often revered in the more common general temples where multiple Gods are worshipped. Uuna and Aurus are often close to Ahdah.   Clerics and Paladins of Uuna and Aurus are also called The Guardians of the Night. While the world sleeps, they are the watchful protectors that keep it safe. The Priests, Clerics and Paladins of the Twins fill in a large variety of roles. Many of them serve as healers, as few other Deities grant their followers healing abilities as powerful as Uuna and Aurus. Others help people that have difficulty sleeping, those that have have unusually horrifying nightmares, or help interpreting people’s dreams for meaning. Lastly, there are those that fully embrace the role as Guardians of the Night. They stand watch in towns, cities, or other settlements during the night, protecting it from any kind of trouble, big or small. Places that have exceptional trouble with nightly raids by any kind of creatures sometimes call in the Guardians of the Night to help with the problems, as many of them are seen as experts in enemies that come out during the night.   The Clerics and Paladins of the Twins often enjoy the night and its moons and stars. They can be found praying when it’s dark, and many of them live a reversed cycle where they sleep during the day but are awake during the night.
