Khruw
God of Wealth
With a gluttony that matches his greed, Khruw is the God of Wealth in Ehldaron’s pantheon. Khruw’s keen mind and unscrupulous attitude towards business made him by far the most wealthy being in the realm. His giant luxurious palaces and colossal treasure vaults were the dream of many, even the other Gods. Many merchants and nobles revere Khruw in the hope that just a tiny part of his success rubs off onto them, as that would be all they needed to make them wealthy enough to live a life of nothing but luxury and pleasure.
With the banishment of the Gods it seems that Khruw’s golden city, once his capital, is lost to history. Many adventurers and explorers dream of discovering it, and all its treasure.
Beliefs and purpose
To Khruw there is only one goal in life, to amass as much wealth as possible. Wealth is seen as the way to gain all pleasures in life. As such, Khruw’s belief is a very materialistic one. Piles of gold, grand castles, nice decorations, fine clothing are all examples of what makes life worth living. The God of Wealth loves to indulge himself to all pleasures his money can buy him, although there is one pleasure he puts above all other: delicious food. Lots, and lots of delicious food. Khruw is often depicted as an obese human, something that is supposed to be both a symbolic representation of his greed, as well as a literal depiction of his gluttony.
Khruw does not really have any scruples about how to amass wealth, although he personally is not really a fan of stealing money. This has nothing to do with morals however, as the God of Wealth has no problem with making money through illegitimate arrangements and deals, although anyone caught stealing from the Him can expect to be executed shortly after. Instead, Khruw finds that business is often far more lucrative than trying to steal gold. Those who deal with Khruw, or any of his followers for that matter, better be careful though, as the God of Wealth can easily suck the other party dry of gold using his influence or other, less savoury methods.
Followers
Khruw is very often worshipped by merchants, nobles, and others that wish to gain wealth. The worshipping of Khruw rarerly happens in temples or through praying however, as for the God of Wealth gaining and spending as much gold as possible is the best way to show yourself as a devout follower. A consequence of this if of course that there are very few dedicated temples of Khruw. More often he is worshipped in a more general temple where there are many deities.
During the ancient times Khruw had a vast empire, with incredible cities and palaces made out of gold. This attracted a lot of attention, as Khruw was known to reward those that worked hard handsomely, believing it necessary to keep his subjects happy as well. The army of Khruw’s ancient empire, the Golden Legion, was enormous and extremely well trained. As their name suggests, the soldiers wore armour with golden trimmings, making them very noticeable anywhere in the world. Khruw did not like waging war himself, but it was an extremely profitable business that he could make exorbitant amounts of gold with. The Golden Legion, except when needed to defend Khruw’s empire, would often fight for the highest bidder.
Many people still worship Khruw. Clerics and priests do exist, strongly believe that becoming as wealthy as possible in life should be the goal. They travel around spreading that believe, while of course following their own advice. Many of them are shrewd businessmen or manipulators and can be found around rich merchants and nobles as advisors. Occasionally a noble or other rich person may end up thanking Khruw by building a temple dedicated to him. While these temples are rare, they are often a sight to behold. Decorated in gold and platinum, with many priceless gems and art, they are among the most beautiful things in the world.
